  • Can anyone recommend any places that might sell secondhand mid-century/Danish/Swedish furniture North and East London? I don't know much about this stuff but I know I like simple! Most of what I've seen is online so I'd like to go out to see and touch this stuff in the flesh. Peanut Vendor was mentioned above - will be checking that out. I've seen a couple of places around Victoria Park and London Fields but thought I'd try here first for suggestions. I don't mind if they've been hit by hipster tax or not - I'm just looking at the mo. :) Thanks.

The Peanut Vendor is a great shop. They have a website http://thepeanutvendor.co.uk/

http://yesterdayfurniture.co.uk are based in Hackney I think. There's a couple of shops on Church St, Stokey - can't remember the name of one but it's near Il Bacio Express. There's also The Cobbled Yard behind the Daniel Defoe. There's 'Past Caring' on Essex Road which is a bit brik-a-brakie but is ok downstairs. There's a very good small shop on Essex Rd, where it meets North Rd (I think), next to the Taxidermy shop. It's expensive but it's genuine Mid-Century awesomeness.

A friend of mine had a book called 'Bargain Hunters London', here:

It has a great section on Furniture shops, lock-ups, auction houses etc. and also the best markets. It will list any that specialise in Mid-Century.

Also, if you like G-Plan - I may be selling my desk/dresser shortly to make space. It's like this: http://www.rubysretroroom.com/USERIMAGES/RUBEDO%20015.JPG. It makes a great desk.
