I know Shimano 107mm BB's are symmetrical. The 110mm Shimano is designed for a Road double chainset and is not symmetrical.
It is a bit of a minefield as you are correct in saying that symmetry is never mentioned.
I suspect most 110mm BB's with Shimano style cup splines are not symmetrical.
