I use one of these for clean boost (the overdrive sound is lousy but the clean boost option is great). it's fab for that actually. if you're cleanclean it just boosts volume. If you're a bit more edgy it pushes the amp into a nice natural overdrive. And if you're already overdriven or you use it in front of another mild overdrive like a TS9 or something it gets great singing feedy backy sustain but without too much distortion.
cheep too (about £45). for some reason clean boosts tend to be stupidly expensive. That's the set up i've used for years. One of these on clean boost into a tubescreamer into a small ish tube amp. Still haven't found a combination that gives me a better range of useable and tweakable levels of drive.
