Score board... Electronics genius wanted

Posted on
  • I got these led scoreboard circuit boards from down the tip decades ago , unfortunately my good friend Andre the polish electronics genius from next door drank himself to death and since then i don't know anyone who is a dab hand with the soldering iron and wiring diagrams .
I will have a stab at it , the plan is to try and circumnavigate the transisters and just have the 6 way switch to do the 0,1,2,3,4,5 for polo scoring . Andre did do this on some for me for a display for a 1999 party we did once and i can show you what he did . But that was just for static numbers...........this would have to change .maybe not possible ?
Would be great though to match this up with a led clock and we have a nice 12v portable scoreboard !!!!!!!

I imagine someone out there may not be a photographer or a web designer?

  • I imagine someone out there may not be a photographer or a web designer?

    Wrong forum for that.

  • True, i'll try a hobby electronics forum .

  • I'm sure there's a forum with the know how out the somewhere!

Very basic way of doing it would be to just switch each bank of lights separately, would need 7 switches and would make knowing what combo for what number a massive PIA so useless really.

Will look sweet when working tho! Good find.

  • I got given a "make your own radio (and other fun toys)" set when I was 12 or so.

I spent weeks putting the bits in the right place and following the instructions.

The final day came to turn it on and have a boogie to Radio One. It didn't turn on. Dad tested it and found 99% of the circuitry to be "another bad apple".

    Electricity: How does that work?

  • It's an effect of one of the fundamental forces, electromagnetism. This is why magnets and electricity go hand in hand. They are both part of the same force in essence.

Gravity and electromagnetism are the two fundamental force that we come across most in everyday life.

  • Ha i tried to make a solder it yourself LED love heart for this girl i had a crush on and had to get the not yet dead Andre from next door to sort it out as i'd fried the tiny circuit board .

  • A reply!

  • Could be a result , hurrah for the internet.
I'm ready with soldering iron at the ready , Steve is on my case .

  • You know what would be cool is if the scoreboard was remotely controlled by the ref ..............

  • Maplin. For not a lot.

  • Anyone remember Tandy and radioshack ?

  • Radioshack? Didn't they try to start a bike racing team way back?

  • Used to have a Tandy in Harlow. Radioshack still exist in the States.

  • didnt radioshack turn into rs ???

  • didnt radioshack turn into rs ???

                                 History of RS

From a lock-up garage in North-West London, J H Waring and P M Sebestyen established a company called Radiospares Limited, which began operating from a small building in nearby Birchington Road, supplying radio repair shops with spare parts for radios. It was from there that RS began its journey to becoming the market leader it is today.

  • Radioshack is american like Lance

btw - i can solder, would need to know what needed soldering to what though. or you can borrow my iron and try yourself

  • Cheers, i can solder ok too and i've got a soldering iron .Just not sure about the rest. Hoping electronics forum will come up with a solution.
