Do Shimano Dura-Ace 7600 cranks actually come with dustcaps? From what I can see if they do come with the dustcaps no one actually uses them anyway... I'm so annoyed though as I'm now convinced this has completely ruined the pornworthiness of this build...

yeah it's crap now, you may as well just give all the parts to me.

I received my spring project bike today - the kotter I mentioned before.
I was slightly disappointed that the paintwork was damaged in a few places as the guy advertised it as being in good condition but I am planning to powdercoat it so I suppose it doesn't matter.
I found a local powdercoater which offers coating for about 30 pounds. I quite fancy racing green but leaving the forks chrome. The tubing is columbus aelle, which I think is a lower end tubing, but it is surely an improvement on my current hi-ten bike.
The cranks are Dura ace, which I would liek to keep if possible but I'm not sure what I'm going to do about the chain line. From a quick check it seems that the inside chain ring is about 43mm from centre - is it possible to put the large chainring on the inside or would it be a better idea to put in a shorter BB? It is an italian threaded BB, which is a pain for me as I don't have the tools to deal with it so I will need to visit the lbs to take it apart.

They should come with Ti crank bolts with integrated Al dust caps.

hehe, so Rene at tracksupermarket.com is selling caps and bolts separately then...
^^ on kotter, why are you concerned about chainline, are you going to convert it to fixed?
-

Yes, I want a second bike for dry weather, so I will be stripping it but I want to keep any parts that I can.
I took it for a test ride today and it felt weird as anything riding a freewheel after nearly a year fixed.

No I'm not blaming Rene at all, I've always found him to be super helpful, the box was still sealed when I received it so I think it's a balls up at Shimano! No bolts or dustcaps though I got bolts wih the Hatta BB so I'm not too fussed about the bolts!

for some reason i can't load the shots into the lfgss albums - step 1 of the mercier
the paint strip n polish...frame is going translucent black, with white tires, new regal seat, wheels being built next week, wooden bar being made for it later
I can not dislike this, at least for personnal affective reasons! Can you give close-up pics of the lugs and fork crown?
Good luck for the rest of the project!

They should come with Ti crank bolts with integrated Al dust caps.
It may actually depend on the year of build.
Older ones came with Al dust caps and steel boltsMust have been changed around 1994 when FC-7410 and cartridge type BB-units were introduced for Dura Ace (although crank bolts and dust caps have nothing to do with the type of BB set).

Dura Ace cranks dont come with bolts or caps. Fact. At least the new square tapered ones don't.

Hey Loic - sweet man thanks for the interest.
The colour scheme is based on this poster I have here. The poster and photo of the bike, when it's done, will be framed for the lady who gave it to me in honour of the original owner - her late ex-husband who she remained great friends with - they did a lot of touring together on their bikes.
I did identify the year 83/84 - The stickers I ordered from lloyds cycles have a gold outline and are of the 1980's era - stoked on that - good looking out on that mate.
Not sure if i will line the lugs in gold, might ask forum opinion when time comes ;) The lugs are very basic, nice shape n all but very basic. .... presume the frame material i's low end Colombus?? Send a couple shots your way anyways..

Send a couple shots your way anyways..I'm afraid that poster is not the same Mercier as your frame. I can be wrong but it seems to be from a local Parisian bike shop, when the other (and main) Mercier (your frame) would have been the larger factory founded and based in Saint Etienne.
Good your frame is from 83/84, as 84 is when things seem to have gone wrong with the name (as they started making supermarket bikes after 85).
Re lug lining (gold on pink mainly), from what I've seen, it appears on the more elaborated lugged frames, like on this picture:

Pretty much finalised the setup of my Poyner, I think. Pretty happy with how it's riding now. I use it for my commute to the boatyard, and any other getting-about I need to do.

nice, apart from the egg beaters.

I knew they'd be mentioned. Personally, I've used eggbeaters for about 6 years, and never had any problems.

Finished putting this together a couple of weeks ago. Recently had the frame resprayed and believe its late 80s made from 531 competition tubing. Really happy with the end result.
@ ed, thanks for the bagman tip a few pages back. I'm going to get involved in the next couple of weeks.
