I got given a "make your own radio (and other fun toys)" set when I was 12 or so.
I spent weeks putting the bits in the right place and following the instructions.
The final day came to turn it on and have a boogie to Radio One. It didn't turn on. Dad tested it and found 99% of the circuitry to be "another bad apple".
