just on hold to them to ask about bikes, other option is £197 with luftansa with luggage up to 45 kg included, this is better times, 9:45am arrival on friday and back to mcr on monday at 5.40pm
just spent 20 mins on hold to flybe hung up, emailed them and got an auto response staing it would be replied to in 5-6 weeks? wtf ,on there website it says they will take bikes if they have the room but cant guarantee, but it looks like at no extra cost? could chance it and if we have to pay then its still cheaper than the other flights.
other option is bmi this is £184 plus £30 for bike this is also arive 9.45 back to mcr 5.40
so options are:
Flybe £115 - no guarantee of bikes and possible extra charge, bad arrival times
luftansa - £197 - better times no bike charge (but can imagine getting stung at the airport possibly)
**
bmi - £214** - no real drawbacks apart from cost obviouslywhat shall we do?
can people chip in i feel like im doing all the work here -

i'm not involved and i'm totally just jumping in in the middle of conversation, but i've not got great memories of flying either flybe or bmi. went amsterdam with bmi and they ripped me off for baggage surcharge, which i weighed at home. flybe have loads of hidden charges as well.
never flown lufthansa, can't comment. feel free to totally disregard my comments though, like i said i'm not going so have nothing to lose really.

I'm happy to do either of those 3 options, my budget was 250. But the cheapest is better. I reckon we go with flybe, like you said if we do have to pay extra at the airport, its still cheaper than the other 2 options.

Yeah i'd be up for flybe too, looked at trains to Karlsruhe from frankfurt and it's about 19 euro single and takes just over an hour. Give us a call before you book anything please Ste.
-
• #7435
o flybe is £30 per bike (possibly both ways not sure) so could end up being the same as lufthansa, will ring lufthansa in the morning, check that bikes are counted in their 45kg luggage allowance and if they are we will do that, il text you 2moro

can anyone make sense of this regarding bikes?
-
• #7438
i assume the extra cost (70eur) is for the baggage handlers to treat these items with respect.. my mate worked at mcr airport as a baggage handler and was trained to throw bags... soooo whatever you do protect your fork/rear dropouts and shove fuck loads of high density foam in your box.

cheers Paul
so options are:
Flybe £145 - (£30 for bikes dont know if that means both ways so possibly add £30 to that no guarantee of bikes being allowed on, bad arrival times
luftansa - £267 - (£70 for bikes)
**
bmi - £244** - (possibly add another £30 to that for bike coming back) -

Yeah, I got a HTC touch HD you can have for £25 (WinMob like your shit 1) or you can have a HTC Hero for £60, it's a pretty decent android phone, going for well over £100 on ebay. Plus I got some silverware that fell off a lorry.
-
• #7441
I'd be possibly be interested in the HTC Hero is Scott isn't.

Cool, any takers on the silverware? Ive also got a bag of stuffed squirrels.
If scott don't fancy the hero I'm sure we can sort summit out -

My reading of the Lufthansa crap is that in the EU, it's their 'piece' system, which has no regulation on size, only weight. So, in my case, if I can get the bike in a box and it all weighs less than 20kg, it'll be free, as I won't be taking anything else apart from hand luggage. If I go over, it's £10 per kilo (from memory). I called the highly efficient Germans on the phone, and they confirmed. I'm still skeptical though...
If you're flying to Frankfurt, let me know when you're arriving and how you're going to get to Karlsruhe (I haven't booked my train yet - don't know if I even need to book...)

ok im happy with that say we go for the luftansa flight then?
il book mine and woodys and send the flight numbers over to chan and mirekdoes it have to be in a box or is a bike bag ok?

• #7445
Hey Rob, if scott and ronnie pull out im interested too. otherwise im interested in the htc touch phone for sure..
by silverware you mean big knives right? i need a strong (at least 1.5mm thick) 3 to 4" long blade for making mallet cutouts. and driving lessons twice a week starting monday ;)
-
• #7446
You need a knife for driving lessons?
-
• #7447
i have been reading the highway code. they were pretty specific. 3 to four inches long
-
• #7448

It's lorry driving lessons, and the knife is for murdering prostitutes.
-
• #7449
awkwarrd...
-
• #7450
I do cover prostitute murdering, but in the passpluss, after you've done your test, it helps with insurance and the like. It's not just restricted to knives either
