  • I've never met Matt at polo but in 1996 I was in hospital in Aberdeen, laid up with gout. The pain was indescribable. One night I was lying there, unable to sleep, sweating and beginning to think that even death would be preferable to another day of big toe related misery.
Just then a young lad wandered in to my room. Small, tousle haired and with a cherubic grin. He spoke not a word. Rather he silently approached the bed and very gently touched my agonised toe. At once the pain vanished. Before I could even grasp what had happened the lad had vanished.
Many years later I was browsing this forum and saw a picture of Matt. I looked at that face, that hair and that grin. I realised straight away that I was looking at someone I had seen before. The man I was looking at had exposed himself to me on Platform 6 at Victoria station two years previously.
I never did find out what happened to the boy from the hospital.
