you have just heard it from rik, anyone one who disagrees is dead, that is right DEAD!!

  • which chris king front disc hub would work with the velosolo bolt on cog?

  • hipster!

  • If I convince a friend of mine to sell me a bike from his independent bike shop at trade price. Would I be able to resell the said bike in a few months and recoup what I paid?

I need a bike at the moment, just something practical and hyrbidy. Either SS or hub gears. But will prolly want to be rid of it by summer again. Im not sure what shop markups are like.

But he can get in genesis, dawes, marin, gt, merida, etc.

  • Why don't you ask him?

  • Probably not. You riding around on it involves wearing and tearing it.
I don't think you'd get a full price back on it.

Especially now you've told everyone on here your plan.
    Envisages the future:

"Hi guys, I've gotthis great genesis/dawes/deleteasappropriate. I've only had it a couple of months. looking for X pounds. It's a steal!"

"yeah, from us. you bought that at cost. and have trashed it."
    "BURN HIM!"

    etc

  • what's with the Afro-Caribbean thing of barbers and hairdressers opening really late? It seems like a great thing culturally. Where does it come from?

  • lethal

buy a 2nd hand bike as it has already lost the most significant part of the value.

  • which chris king front disc hub would work with the velosolo bolt on cog?

The disk mount is ISO so no issue the problem will be re-spacing it to 120 mm oln. The shmino ones work because you can just whack in a longer axle and some spacer to get the spacing.

  • Tommy, would there be a way to make it work or is it just a foolish idea.

I cant work out if there is a way to resolve the axle issue for the chris king.

I contacted them direct but did not get a very useful reply - it was something like "we dont make a fixed hub but you could use one of our road hubs on the front wheel of a track bike".

  • I'm not 100% sure how the Chris king hub comes apart but it think you would have to turn up a axle to get it to work.

  • hyperthetically, if I were to use a 9 speed shimano chain on my brakless fixie skidder, will is it likely to skip off or snap or something?

A new 1/8 chain is a fiver, buy a new one.

  • Max phoned me the other day while I was in Kent, and asked "Is the pie dish, with Pyrex written on the bottom, safe to put in the oven"
I gave him a reply, but anyone else with any answers should feel free to text/mail/pm with any other useful answers.

It's still in the sink, so if anyone could answer Max's unstated question, "How, exactly, does washing up happen?" I would be most grateful.

  • Can I use cantilever levers with my cable discs or should i stick to V-brake levers?

  • Whatever happened to Ray Liotta?

  • that's a fucking good question.......

  • Seems a few bits coming up

buy a decent MTB or a flashy SS and you will very close to recover the in late spring.
it is when everybody who dont have a bike try to get one for the summer rides.

be ready to lose a bit too.
if bike cost new to public £350, you mate get it for £280, you could reselt it easily for £250* **
    *all this numbers are fake
** I dont really know what is the marging from public price to trade price

Loadsa barbers are more than just a barber to alot of their frequents, gaining more of a social club vibe, somewhere to hang out really.

Also, its never too late to get a haircut.

If you don't want an afro, you need to touch up frequently. After it's a habit. And a cultural thing.
Hard to say really without sounding racist. When you're robbed of your roots, you'll make up some crazy new customs.

Open till late? Because the bashments start late and you can pop in on your way to a party :-)

  • Can I use cantilever levers with my cable discs or should i stick to V-brake levers?

You can use normal road levers with the road version of cable operated discs, but MTB versions are designed to work with V-brake levers and the leverage ratio will be all to fuck if you mix and match.

  • which chris king front disc hub would work with the velosolo bolt on cog?

Usually the easiest thing to hack is a 20mm hub, as long as it's not one of the primitive ones which uses the axle fixing screw to preload the bearings. You still need to get custom step down spacers, but you can use a normal M10x1 track axle as a through axle.

I wanted to use a BB7 front disc with road levers, so ordered the road specific disc brake.

Wiggle/CRC/whoever it was sent me the wrong one- they sent the MTB version.

The standard palaver of emailing, then phoning, then explaining that I "did not want it anyway", and finally sending back happened.

They sent out the correct version snappily, and I went to fit it.

Now I had had a good long look at the MTB version, including scribbling down part numbers (OCD/cynical, what can I say) and the road and the MTB version are the same- the only difference is that with the road version you get a little inline barrel adjuster to trim the bite point.

  • I bet it was still shit.

  • If you set the brake up according to the instructions then yes, it was.

If you set the brake up according to a bike mechanic (much much less slack than the Manuel said) then it worked pretty well.
