If a fictional radio-soap character falls off the roof and you can't see it - does it really happen? Is it real?
It was theorised that after the episode with the scream, Nigel Pargetter became a radio soap version of Schroedinger's cat, neither dead or alive until the 'box' of the next episode was opened.
There was an interesting piece about this on PM the other night.
I thought the episode itself was a bit disappointing (although some kind of sensational event like a plane crash would have been OTT in Ambridge), but the episodes since have been great. The Archers does the aftermath of death very well - when Phil Archer died was fantastic - top class acting from the lady who plays Jill. I think it was more poignant though as Norman Painting had died in real life.
I'm a bit gutted they killed off Nigel, I thought him and Elizabeth were one couple in Ambridge you wouldn't mind being stuck in a lift with. Most of them are so annoying, yet escaped the grim reaper, which I found a bit disappointing. Although then it wouldn't be as upsetting, so I think the producers handled it all quite well really.
