  • Unless I get my shit together and start doing some proper back stretches, I won't be getting anywhere near the track (again!) this year...

Anyone know some good ones? I'm not gonna race in the league, I just wanna be able to get out there and stretch my legs/get some power down to my pedals... Sciatica seems to have short-circuited that for me, everything's coming from the front of my thighs, I don't seem to be engaging my glutes/lower back at all...

    Serious question, folks...

  • Old school thinking. 2011 is all about anaerobic base training.

Can you provide an example of this? and what training intensity you believe "anaerobic" to mean?

    Talk to this fella.

It's the kind of training that makes your mouth go all metallic from tasting blood.

  • You better see the doctor!

    There'll always be jumbles...

  • But in order to get the best out of "good interval training" you need a decent aerobic base.

That's why it's often called a "base" because you build the other training on top of it.

The amount of aerobic endurance work (usually taking the form of easy road miles) will vary depending on the rider and their chosen goals, but even sprinters who do no obvious aerobic racing need to have an aerobic base.

You are right of course. I just presumed a lot of us do 'base' miles with our commutes. But not everyone does. I ride an hour a day with my commute, which keeps me at a level to which Im able to do intensive sessions on top of this at lunch time or before or after commute.

  • ....But this year Im specifically training for the track stand comp....

  • Now we're back on topic!

  • I just hate points races... they do my head in.

I allways just knacker myself out trying to get some points... and i never actually get anywhere near the money. They take far too much concentration for my liking.

Points races are confusing, I always end up killing myself racing against someone else for 5/6 position which gets no points, then realise that was stupid by which point I'm knackered.

Have you tried observing the other riders and making a note of which ones are winning the points in each sprint? You will often find it's the same suspects, those are the people you need to be marking and riding against when the sprint comes.

Consistency is better than winning one sprint and blowing up.

  • I will be using any Wednesday night racing as training, so will probably start all and finish none, then start most and finish some, and finally start most and finish most.
