Cycling gear that can be used skiing

You need hip and knee pads riding around the city? I know you spend a bit of time on the asphalt but this is surely a bit of overkill..........
I dont really use the knee pads, but when its raining or icy i use the hip protector because i spend so much time on the asphalt. My next purchase will be POC long sleeve impact vest.
