  • Have you seen this on the 2011 bikes thread?

If youre after a polo bike, for the money this looks like a v good bet

    Dunno about this though:

The VEE-1 is our urban attack machine. Tough, versatile and built with simplicity in mind, it's the weapon of choice for street warriors whose daily mission is to tackle whatever the city can throw at them.

  • I am a street warrior

  • You should so get one. How are you even managing to attack in urban areas without one?

  • i have an inferior weapon, however this would be my weapon of choice from the urban attack weapons cache.

  • Yeah you should fully get one, you could do so much better attacking.

  • They look alright, I reckon.

  • I thought it was a 29er for a sec when i first saw it.

  • I bought an SE Draft lite in the Chain reaction sale for £170.08, I bought a new (to me) saddle, chain adjuster and pedals and away she goes.

  • How's it working out for polo?

  • You again?!
It's alright ta, come be bullied by it any Sunday or Wednesday :)

seriously thought, it's good, I'm struggling to get used to skinny tyres, that's me not the bike though. Just hope the frame is strong enough to withstand some abuse.

  • glad to hear you like your draft lite Simple, I'll be getting mine tomorrow. was after a pub hack and for the money CRC were asking I couldn't resist but i price matched with evans so i got a free 6 week service and can pick it up ready to ride from the shop plus I can just take it back to the shop if there are any problems.

out of curiosity what chain tensioner are you using?

  • I'm using the cheap one sold by Charlie the bike monger, bought it via ebay over christmas, arrived 2 days later.

    Linky

  • cheers will give them a look.

just got to decide what pedals to put on it now.

  • Next week I plan on buying a single speed, but which one I am yet to decide. My budget's £350.

    Have I missed any?

what's important to me is that it's light, low maintenance and reliable/dependable, the latter

probably being the most important. What are the above bikes like with regards to my

requirements? I've heard the Subway Zero will need some extra attention every so often and

Plugs are relatively heavy. Is there any truth behind that?

Sometimes I commute to work on bike but never in the winter. The last mile or so is actually

quite a bumpy trail. As well as my commute I'd also like to start cycling to the gym which is

entirely on-road but can't rule out the possibility of cycling off-road when it takes my

interest (excluding the local parks which are mostly just untarmaced tracks with the odd tree

    root).

For frame size I'm 5 9". Should I stick to a frame less than 20"? Maybe an 18"?

  • If you have £350 dont buy the draft lite, I spent £170 on mine and think it's got stupidly crap parts on it for the money. The brakes are toss (levers and calipers) the BB was cheap and nasty. If I had £350 i'd buy something alot nicer second hand (though this can be a mine field of pikeys, chavs and stolen bikes)

I'd got for the carrera subway zero if it fits you(it doesnt fit me), it has much better brakes, BB and you can fit fatter tyres to it should you wish.

Lucas R may have one for sale that he used for polo a couple of times before buying a polo specific bike second hand.

I have no experience of the other bikes on your list. you're welcome to have a spin on my SE draft if you're local. it'll be in Cambridge on Wednesday if that's local.

but I wouldn't buy one again.

  • Whichever Charge Plug that you like the most.

I'd probably buy that, and get a new back wheel.

  • Hi folks, newbie here, I bought a Subway Zero at Christmas for £180 thro' C2W. I spend ages trying to get one as they're discontinued and rare as rocking horse shit. I ended up getting an 18" and adjusting it to fit - i'm 6ft 2.
I thought it was a great bike for the money, very light, fast and easy to get up to speed.

Unfortunately I've had it nicked after only 6 weeks >:-(

I'm trying to find another or something similar in the same price range

  • I think LucasR has a subway for sale, it's not very old and has been used for polo a couple of times.

Oh and buy a U lock before you get another bike, you may keep it longer then.

Don't be tempted by the SE, it really is poor quality compared to the cheaper Subway.

  • Well...I'm Selling An 18" Carrera Subway Zero '09 If Anyone's Interested. PM Me An Offer :)
