Wanted: Look track frame

  • anybody know where all older/cheaper look track frames are hiding? i've been on the lookout for a while now with no success. cheers, f

  • Try sticking a wanted ad in the classifieds section - could smoke something out.

  • perfect, all i need now is some carbon stablisers and i'm away!

  • now we're talking, thanks! although getting my french-literate girl to translate without knowing that there is another project in the offing is going to be tricky!

*hunts for old gcse french textbook....

  • @ mattty

will do, always worth a go!

    cheers

  • Hi

I'm looking for a used and reasonably priced Look track frame (+ forks). I normally ride 58-60cm. Any help much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Fred

  • Been after a Look track for a long while now, the yellow one, but I would need a large and have never seen one come up, at the same point as me being able to afford it. Failing that I'm hoping the 464 takes a price drop/second hand. I posted a beaut of a build of the yellow Look in porn awhile back...

  • ditto, that is exactly what i'm after, very nice...

    *sighs

  • There's one hanging up in Plums bike shop in Ghent. It's probably still there

  • ha, you can just about see one in the pictures on this thread: http://www.lfgss.com/thread2621.html - wonder if its the same one, if so, i reckon there is room for bartering! i'll drop them a line and see if its still about. thanks. f

Its upstairs now .I think its just a store room as I didn't see any stairs from the shop floor going upstairs.

You can see it though from the outside if you look upwards.

  • I had one of the Look AL264 above. The positives are that it is very light.

It isn't however very well made. The welding is brutal and the chain stays are very thick which causes problems with certain cranks/chainline. I am sure there are other aluminium frames out there that are much better value.

  • Any particular model? A reasonable price for a used 596 Piste would be £4000, while a 464 might go for £400

  • I was thinking of the 464, i'm sure the 596 is reasonably priced, it'd just be completely wasted on me! I think I spied a fairly bashed up 464 set-up for about 350 a while back, maybe i missed a golden opportunity....

  • I was just giving a couple of examples of current product - for all we knew from your post you could have been after one of the old steel KG253s. Best new price on a 464 is £565, so £350 wouldn't be a huge bargain for something beat up.

You should be fine on the Large/56cm 464, I ride 55/56cm road frames and the 54cm 464 was spot on for fit - the head tubes are quite tall.

  • Having had wee look-y on t'interweb, what actually i had in my mind's eye was the KG253, not the 464. i've seen a few of the 253 about, mostly with vertical drop-outs but one or two that look similar with track ends, would it be the same model number for both?

  • Why did you start another thread for this?

  • mattty suggested sticking something up here too, cast a wide net and all that. to be fair it seems like between zouo and mdcc and yourself i've learnt a bit about these yellow beauties as well as confirming what i feared, that there just aren't that many AL264s about - boo. back to the drawing board (with slightly sharper pencils....)

are you suggesting i should close one of the threads? i don't know the form, but i'm happy to do so.

    cheers

    f
