  • rear is an easy set up, front can be trickier

    if your sit are 3 speedon front you'll have to work out where the dead click will be (high /low).

    some have a trim position, some don't - not sure on the rsx ones. and your front mech need to be a road one which it sounds like it is. - check the positioning of the mech carefully (inner curve of mech very close to the rings) any previous mis alignment of mech or bend in the chain rings will be less tolerated on an indexed front than a friction front. if you get rub on the front mech in some positions that can't be fine tuned out then a thinner chain (7/8 speed) may help - but may then be harder to shift.

    if your 105 set is older than when the STis came out (what is the serial number of the set - especially the front mech ?) you may need new front mech - did you have to trim the front mech for when the chain was high/low on rear? if it is older the spacing on the front chainrings may not be the same but it's unlikely

    and make sure you fit an adjuster for the front cable somewhere (usually it's on the downtube)

    also be sure to use gear outer sleeve cable - not brake cable. (brake is spiral bound but the gear stuff is all steel rods inline). gear cable will not compress and that's important to get the indexing right

    give yourself room on the cable that exits the levers for future adjustments in height/ reach. i'd set ti tup and ride beofre wrapping the bars - check you're happy with lever positions beofre wrapping.
