  • Some heavy geekin in this thread.

    Says the folding bike enthusiast.

  • Not bike specific and certainly not cheap but if you want to buy the best tools in the world you buy Snap-On. * Thread Ends *

  • That's basically it.
Snap-On are a joy to use.

Why do they not make bike tools? park and co are all very well, but hardly up to the same quality.

  • when I was a car mechanic the snap-on pozidrive screw drivers had pretty soft tips. They used to wear pretty quickly, but there was no issue getting the tips renewed by the 'man in the van'.

  • snap on are shit, nice to look at thats it, halfords stuffs better imo, ive broken dozens of snap on stuff, always had a load of arse to get it swopped, they try to claim missuse etc, dont rate the stuff at all, blue point the cheaper stuff is better tbh
rant over, off to stroke halfords kit :/

All tool ends will wear at some point, that's why the life warrantee is good.

I still need to find a man to replace the bits in my 20 year old hex key set which have now worn down too much to use.

Sounds like you had a tight supplier. We used screwdrivers as chisels for a lot of things as they're under the warranty. Chisels arent. We got on with our supplier quite well. If they can't fix something under warranty then it'll be replaced. When I took my ratchet driver to the van he wasn't sure if the mech was still available as it as so old. I was hoping it wasn't so that I could get a nice shiny new one. What I got back was lovely. 30yrs old and still gong.

Story over. Snap-On are good but obviously there are other companies out there producing as good as or better tools. Mac, Teng, Halfords, Draper. Mac and Snap-On pliers are both made by Knipex, the Mac design is better. Blue-Point is the 'value' version of Snap-On. The company was bought by Snap-On many years ago, they continued to use the name for their cheaper range. A bit like Draper and Draper Expert.

  • ^Good but this is the shiz! Tension meters can be put on any or all of the needles

Apart from the price, that's actually a natty idea.

I use a set of Facom allen keys just like this that my Dad got when he worked for London Underground. Whenever someone asks to use them to tighten/ fix something I now have to warn them that they probably won't be able to loosen it again with out that specific set. Serious allen keys.

  • Yup - I have some Facom stuff - it's very good.

Snap-on are over-rated IMO, and certainly over-priced. I have some King Dick stuff that's better, and got given a Halfords Professional socket set, which is at least as good as S-O, and is guaranteed for life.

  • Snap-On

Aka Snap Off by anyone that actually uses then and doesnt just spend all day arranging them in the tool box drawers.

  • vello is always speaking highly of facom and king dick tools

snap on do have good waranties on their tools which is a plus.

  • campagnolo made the best chain breaker ever (for me at least!)
