Chain too short? Wheel to far forward?

Posted on
  • Just fitted a larger chainring on my bike, using the same chain this obviously means my back wheel is further forward than before. It is now sitting with only a few millimeters clearance between tyre and seat tube, is this an issue?

  • as long as it isn't touching it's fine.

  • slong as the wheel is secure in drop outs, chain is correctly tensioned,
    no.

  • thanking you, wheel is secure as can be and has a MKS chain tug for good measure

  • stab it and steer baby

  • My rear wheel is 1-2mm away from my tube. There's about 1-2mm of play at a right angle to the axle, which means that one moment it's really close, then it's really, really close, then it's really close....

  • Should true it really.

  • As long as a 3mm stone doesn't stick to your tyre and then jam between tyre and downtube you will be fine.
Probably one for the mega paranoid (where's my hash) as not sure it could actually happen to that degree...

  • a stone wouldn't get stuck enough to stop the wheel.

  • Just enough to score a line down the back of your seat tube...

Not that I've ever heard of it happening.

  • Good read.
