Fiddy and I discussed this at some length over a beer or two.

The American Classic one on eBay was the only one I ever found. It's still there but is now £103!

I've found an American bloke who will custom make them for around £100, which is another - equally expensive - option. Was hoping there would be a cheaper way though.

Looks like I've bagged the quill seatpost from Hilary, which is going to save my project. For future reference, if anyone's ever in the same boat as me and Fiddy, the guy in the States can be found here;

I've just had an email from him saying that he will make one up for $95 and ship it to the UK for an additional $19. Coincidentally he's shipping one over here tomorrow.
