Folding bikes can be taken anywhere, to work, to meetings, out to dinner etc. without any faff finding a dock. Also if you're using a BB after coming in from the country/suburbs how do you travel to the station at the home end of your journey? A folding bike is a solution to bad public transport links or the desire not to use your car or just to keep fit, they will also save you a fair bit of money on the long run.
Brompton have long had very good representation over the Greater London area fir many years so ou could have thought that they would have reached their saturation point yet on the contrary they are selling more bikes this year over last.
You could also say that bike sales would take a hit due to the BB scheme yet I'm fairly certain that these will just entice more people to cycling who then will go onto buy there own bikes.
