  • The real problem is that most people are thick as whale omlettes, fed on a diet of Hello and footie, and can't think something through beyond the headline of the Sun/Daily Heil/Racing Post.

  • ^The problem can be better defined by looking at our "educate by numbers" habits. Folks are born with the potential to be a lot less dim than your average stereotypically dim person, they just tend to have any capacity to think for themselves, reason, challenge (and not to mention creative thinking) sucked out of them as they are processed by our one size fits all system.

  • ^^this.
    Best.Car.Ever.

  • Mas skillz.. But so hipster it hurts.. Still, his mum was impressed

Ha, when she came in at 42 seconds standing there like a total hipster it cracked me right up!

Its not even the best landrover! it can be significantly improved by lobbing the back off it to get the wheels even remotely near the corner.

Off road vehicles with over hangs = epic fail.

  • Best off roader IMHO

  • So in the middle of the dessert and the engine management epic fails?

and only when used by farmers or the army, when there is a necessity for such things. clean landrover = epic fail

  • same basic design as it was 60 years ago. Thats got to be a sign of a good design.

yeah that was my other choice!

  • Or get a Shogun and do the same stuff in comfort.

  • Or an original Land-cruiser.

  • Get a Suzuki.

  • Get one of these - duh, total no brainer, and ideal for around town. Nobody will pick an argument if you wanted to pull out on a roundabout; and top speed, well, about 30 mph, so don't need to worry about speeding tickets.

Ideal around town. Hmmm. As in, where there are loads of petrol stations and not many fast sharp corners?

got to say these are more than equivalent to the landrover, absolutely bombproof.

  • lots of win.

    a) the balls to wear it
    b) A girl in the photo
    c) ROFLcon, thats a conference i'd well go to!

Also I really want to like him because he just looks so damn cheerful it makes me feel a little emotional... Look how happy he is! God damn he's just chuffed to bits with life!

  • The win with the old defenders is as much their simplicity as the other stuff. Sure there are more reliable, more comfortable machines with easier to source parts but nothing beats the old Landies for ease of bush maintenance.

A few years ago I was volunteering on a project in Botswana when our accelerator cable disintegrated at dusk and we were several hours outside of radio contact. A few cable ties and old wire coat hangers later and we had a semi-functional hand-throttle. It wasn't ideal but it limped us back to radio contact. On the way back we also managed to put a branch through the radiator meaning we had to stop to cool down for half an hour every 10-15 minutes. That landy was only out of action for one day before being back on full duty. Easy peasy!

Personally my favourite ones are the long wheelbase ones - more space to sleep on the roof. :)

  • Defenders are my favorite car ever, but I had this friend in school, he had a 'strange rover'...
basically an old 1980 Range Rover converted to an absolute truthful 4x4, ripped off of all the interior and unnecessary BS.
Obviously it would drink a full tank just to go fuck around in some hills,
but my god that 'car' was nice... v similar to this, high as f***, snorkel, the whole shebang..

  • you know.... we have a car thread......
    jus' sayin'......

Picky Picky Picky... detail mere detail.
