The 30 year Balvenie is ethereal and their Golden Cask (rum cask aged) is also pretty amazing.

I think it's aimed at me. So I think he's a cunt.
That's the way the forum works right? Take things personally when the chance of it being about you is so very slim.
You're so vain, you probably think this post is about you.
BTW... stollen. Not your usual funeral fare, but that stuff is gorgeous. Why don't we eat it all year round?
Also... I'm on a whisky tip at the moment and usually go for deep peaty single malts, but I'd like to try something smooth... anyone got a recommendation for a really gorgeous smooth single malt? Scottish obviously.

No idea what this means, but worth investigating. I'll see if Asda have it ;)

At £300 per bottle, unlikely.
Seriously. You are welcome to come on over and sample some of my collection. The company's shut down from the 24th through to the 3rd and not planning on leaving the house much after the round of Xmas/Boxing day meals.

The whole classic malts range is pretty good.

You're doing it wrong, what generally get's sold as stollen in England is bad stuff, if you get the real deal with nice preserved fruit (not glazed cherries) and real marzipan it's pretty special.

I went up there in '99 when I was working at a wine/whiskey merchants and did not appreciate whiskey at all. I'm still not keen on the heavy smoked/peaty stuff but the lighter ones are quite nice.
The Glenmorangie Nectar D'or is nice as well.

I'm a very irregular post-er, but Whisky is a love of mine.
The 25 yr old Highland Park is the finest I've had the pleasure of, particularly because it is so smooth. Lagavulin is my usual favourite, and I'm with Velocio on a lovely peaty malt but the Highland Park 25 is a lovely change. Not cheap mind, but worth every penny in my humble opinion.

On the basis that most of the regular posters are inebriated when they post, you should fit right in. Welcome.

I love the way that VB has derailed his own thread. Good to have you back David.

Was thinking, since we have a really bad rep (at the moment?), maybe we should do something big and worthwhile for a worthy cause.
We have a bad rep? And haven't we, collectively & individually, already done heaps for several deserving causes?
+1 to Dahlwinnie and I like the Tobermory 15, it's from the same distillery as Ledaig (if you like peated whiskey you'll probably know this one), as well.
