  • He finds a ball, which I buried under the snow.
He loves tennis balls, and often after playing a game, if I put it away or in a room away from him, he'll sit in front of the door/ place I put it, and won't leave till someone gives him the ball!
    He's a bit neurotic/dumb.

  • Awesome, remember a couple of summers ago watching a guy get out of his car on the inner road of hyde park, dog let out the back. Park up on the double yellows. Stands by the car with a tennis racked and a tennis ball, spanking the ball into the long grass where the nude-ish sun bathing goes, dog chases ball, brings ball back, this happens oh a few dozen times, man gets back in car with exhausted dog, drives off. Dog very happy, man taken no exercise what so ever. Job done.

  • Updated photos of Ringo.

The arsehole loves rolling about in the snow, and diving in face first..

  • Jinks, my BC watching One man and his Dog and getting some tips (she came 3rd in her 2nd sheepdog trial last weekend).

plus an unexpected new arrival in the snow....

  • Stanley the Bedlington Terrier - about 12 weeks old.

  • our pet rabbit went a bit mental last night around 10.00pm.. started thumping his back feet for about five minutes.. even though rabbits don't have facial expressions he was pretty upset.. thought it may have been a fox or cat in the garden..

then heard on breakfast TV about the earth tremor last night around preston.. now we live in London, do you suppose he could have felt it..

Bedlington's are so cute. I have visitation rights to Elvis The Bedlington (it's a she, not a he, long story)... owner I know chose a Bedlington on the basis they need bugger all exercise!

  • well, thus far in the two days we've had him he's shown zero inclination to do anything but sit in the warm and snooze in front of the fire. Oh, except charm the vet and kidnap all my slippers and take them back to his den for a quiet chew.

And there's me thinking we'd be tearing round the countryside together. Just bonding at the moment - something tugs at the heartstrings when a little warm hound comes and curls up at your feet where-ever you are in the house - I'm tapping away on the dining room table and :

  • Awwwww, I'm so available for dog walking if required.

  • Any one have a Whippet? Would you recommend them for city living? I live in a flat, but near a park with a dog run, and I have time to spend with it during the day. I have a cat and google tells me that Whippets sometimes kill cats... any real experience? Google also says if I get one I should get two as they need companionship but there is some one around most of the time and I could take them to the studio most days if I need to. I'm dog sitting a mates Whippet for the holidays and I love it, such an awesome dog, tons of energy, fun to run with, chill enough to hang out, and it stands on counters and looks out windows in the most adorable way. also the not slobbering or barking or really shedding takes all the things I don't like about dogs away.

  • Sounds like Whippets are the dogs for you then! Re having 2 dogs for company: I'm pretty sure it's the same in most breeds in that they will get lonely in on their own for long periods of time. If you're going to be around most of the time then you'll be the dogs company. Sometimes dogs can be a lot more affectionate to their master if you're the one they spend the most of their time with.

Whippets are nice dogs, although a little fragile. They can also be rather naughty and a bit mental (for a sighthound) - the bigger sighthounds (greyhound, deerhound) are lazier/more chilled and need less excersize.
One thing to bare in mind with any Sighthound, is that they can chase and catch pretty much anything on four legs. They can react to sudden movement such as a cat running across the road very quickly. There recall is also often not great (something you will need to work on before taking them to anywhere that is not COMPLETELY secure) and I have know several people who have let their hound off the lead only for them to never return.

There are certainly a lot of whippets in this country that are retired racers that need homes, so please consider this very seriously before buying a puppy...
Don't rule out Greyhounds either - they take up surprisingly little room inside a house and are (a little) more robust and there are literally thousands that need homes, but then I am (very) biased :)

How much are you at home - as I would be wary of leaving any dog for more than 6hrs, even if they have a partner. We have someone who comes in and walks the dogs at lunch for us when we are both at work.

  • I posted my pets last week. Hamsters for my cousins in France, and a puppy for my ex in Sydney.

  • Lulu, the second cat. Full-blood Bengal, unlike Oscar, who is a Bengal-Burmese cross.

  • lovely cat
