  • That sounds perfect ^

Like the Op Erik thought I was after 7400, as that's what I've seen and like. Having said that when I say Seven 11 Merckx that must be 7402? As that's 91 onwards..? Besides that still love the 7400 gruppo, what ideally I want is an eddy Merckx of that era with dura ace 74xx? got one kicking around? ; )

    I wish ;)

Thing is Shimano swapped out individual bits as time went on, increasing the number of different group combinations. The cranks are a good example, my Colnago is somewhere in the period of early-mid 90s, so I thought for a bit that the 7410 cranks weren't correct. But they are correct from 91/92 onwards in what I would call 7402/7403 gruppos (if that makes sense, Shimano never called them that). 7410 had the 7402 rear mech until '96 and downtube shifters until '98 if you didn't go for the STIs, 7401 chains were used up to '96.

So your Merx if it is '91 onwards would probably have had 7410 cranks, but if it was a '91 could have had the last of the 7402s, but what I think I'm trying to say is as long as the bits are right for the timescale it's ok. I think!
