  • Told about this by a non-cycling friend - hence rather sketchy details. Last Sunday morning before 09:30 an accident with a cyclist - not clear if they were alone or if it was a collision - just that there was a bike (she saw it layign on the pavement), near the corner of Gilpin Ave and Upper Richmond Road (A205).

The way she described it sounded like a possible fatality - i.e. the whole road taped off and lots of police.

I've searched the internet and nothing. Has she got this completely wrong? Anyone know anythign about this?

I only ask as if this is what happened it's the second accident I've seen/know about which is really odd as the road is pretty much straight and I can't see any clear hazzard - other than useless drivers.

  • IMHO that junction is actually pretty bad.
Drivers find it very hard to pull out of Gilpin Avenue because of the parked cars on their left and often a bus at the bus stop on the right. They will happily ignore a bike in order to take advantage of what they think is a gap.
It is complicated by plenty of minor roads on the north side of the road with cars pulling out fast or waiting to turn in.
Also plenty of muppets hoon past you after the bus stop and turn hard left into Gilpin Avenue.
