Hello,
Here's a little update on Tom:He's still hanging out in University Hospital Lewisham, he had surgery on his leg yesterday and is recovering on Larch Ward where he'll probably be for another couple of days at the least. Now he's on the mend and we know what the score is, any visits from people to cut down the boredom of hospital life and to keep his spirits up would be much appreciated. Visiting hours are 3pm - 8pm daily, with a 2 visitor limit at any time (although we managed to get away with 5 the other day, that was just through discrete hiding behind curtains).
What are the weekend visiting hours?
If you wanted to see him today, anytime after 4pm would be best as I know his family are planning to visit for an hour first thing.
Just give me a shout if anyone needs any more details, or text/phone Tom, he's got his phone on him in the ward so is pretty reachable.

Out of hospital now, staying with my parents in Sidcup. Managed to persuade the physios to let me out early by displaying mad crutches skills. Still a bit out of it due to morphine, which I've got another 3 days of.
I'm going to be in a cast for 6 weeks, then on crutches for another 6, so I should be cycling/walking again in March. My leg now matches MTB in being made out of titanium, plates fixing both tibia and fibula together.
My parents have just contacted the police and it's currently being dealt with as failure to stop, which is obviously a bit lame since I remember very little, not even the bus number. Thanks for all the good wishes, hopefully I'll make it along to Souths at some point in the new year, albeit not on a bike.

Good to hear you're out of hospital, enjoy the morphine while you can, shit cost money in the real world.
Walking by march, riding the bike one legged by the end of January.

Well done on the early escape!
Watch the morphine as it will bung you up, bad take laxatives
Hope your Chrissie is good -

I thought I'd update you all on how I'm getting along.
Plaster came off at the beginning of January, but one of the incisions got infected so I've been on antibiotics all month, and it's limited how much I can do the exercises. Been seeing the NHS physio and a private sport physio.
Saw the orthopedic consultant again today, and the bone is healing well. I've got the go-ahead for partial weight bearing which should help with getting flexibility back. It's pretty much up to the physios now when I'll be able to walk unainded and cycle.
I've been off work until now but will probably go back in a week, for which I'll have to get a car (boo hiss etc).

Absolutely. Going to be a month at least I'd have thought, haven't even made it back onto a stationary bike yet, and it's going to take me a while to get my fitness back; you should see the pathetic state of my left quads. I'm going to try and get it sorted ASAP though so I can start getting muddy again, and hopefully do the Dunwich Dynamo

AND the Guinness Ride! I need at least one other soul in a foam hat.
Glad to hear you are on the mend.

Ha, I'll have to tell my ex housemates to keep that hat for me, I think it was in the place when we moved in.
Physio has finally given me the go ahead to take off my orthopedic boot and start using a stationary bike. Fortunately my office has a half decent gym. I can finally start getting some CV fitness back! Movement in the ankle joint is not that far off normal now, although it's still pretty uncomfortable, so I still need to use crutches to get any further than a few yards.

Dude, Cartman still has the hat, I think. Don't you remember the St. Paddy's day in the Hermit's Cave with the American dude? That's where the hat came from :)

Eeeeexcelent. I only vaguely remember that evening, I think we'd been drinking since lunchtime. I do remember sending the random American Something Awful goon back across London after something like 8 pints though.

Good to hear you're recovering pretty fast.
Not going to get far on a stationary bike though ;)
Get well tom!
Must have you back for more baked apple contests......
