If it's a condensing boiler, the outflow pipe may be frozen up. This is the plastic one outside above a drain. Get a hairdryer on it (paying particular attention to any bends). Then wrap it with cloths and get some insulation in the morning,

It's not just ice, it's proper fucked. The pump has been making strange grinding noises for weeks, and now it doesn't fire up at all. I've turned the gas off at the meter, as it doesn't seem right to pay for the pilot light without getting any benefit from it.
I'll sort it out eventually, but I'm getting used to it. I know it's not that cold in my flat at the moment because the laptop still works. When it gets really frosty you have to take the battery out and warm it up in your clothes for a while before it will switch on.
