I've been using a Handpresso for a year now. Match it with a good grinder and the results are impressive.

Anyway, the question is: does anyone have a good suggestion of a cheap camping stove that works well and won't take 3 hours for the coffee to brew?
Make a 'penny stove' from beer cans for free. Tons of instructions on how to make them online. I've made a few just for fun and they're pretty good. They'll burn for about 5-6 minutes with 3 capfuls of meths, enough to heat up a tin of beans so probably enough to use with a small moka pot.

Awesome setup. Priorities well and truly in order.

Yeh not my captioning! Thought about doing that myself, most hotels have irons but not a hob and stove top. -

Sounds good - if anyone does make it I can highly recommend ExtractCoffee - very good coffee roasted to order and nice people too :)

I still haven't got the Rancilio plumbed in. Finally got around to testing what I thought was the 'water mains' and it's just a fucking tap the conveniently drains water onto the floor under the kitchen sink.
Who fucking builds these things? Dodgy wankers.I'm guessing calling an 'emergency plumber' for coffee machine install is a bit much :)

Who was the nice chap who gave me a packet of coffee as a xmas pressie at saarfs last night?
It's very nice, just slurping a stovetop of it. Thanks mate! :)

so how many double shots from a 250g bag of coffee?
i know it will vary a bit with the grind but was just curious comparing the cost of pods -

I seem to have a really bad habit of taking the largest of my baskets and filling them as full as my machine will let me. And that's just for one coffee for myself. No wonder one coffee is enough to get me shaking!

single baskets are for when you are about to run out of coffee and think there's enough left to fill it.

i know it will vary a bit with the grind but was just curious comparing the cost of podsIn an ideal world you'd get around 13 x 18g doubles but there's always the dialling in with a new batch of coffee, either adjusting the dose for pre-ground or setting the grind for whole bean. The wholesale bods quote 50 shots per kilo, I get slightly less than that, even when using write-off coffee to season and warm the groups at the start of a session.

^ "Write off coffee"?

Hmm, that's a new one on me too. Even the cheapest stuff from Tesco that's been open and lying around for a few months is still good to go if that's all I've got and can't be arsed to go to the shops!

Don't forget to eat plenty! There's nothing quite like new machine caffeine poisoning.

Nice one Wayne. Does that mean the hippy has finally plumbed in his monster machine?

The warm up I understand, but season the groups with coffee? What's that about?

Get some coffee oils on the kit. Remove any Pulycaff cleaner, etc. I never drink the first shot post-cleaning.
Here's an ubergeek talking about it:

I've been cycling through different Monmouth beans this month, from their Organic espresso blend, Guatemala Finca Santa Clara, and now Costa Rica Finca Las Lajas.
The Organic espresso blend is still my favourite, really nice floral aroma / sweetness.
Since I got an aeropress though, I haven't touched the stove top pot again. It tastes 'tainted' compared to how clean the brew is in an aeropress. Maybe it needs a proper clean.
