  • Here, darling.

That would give you a better idea about the adjustments of the seatpost, saddle, stem etc.

Careful with that ^ In theory it's good, but it relies on you making some very precise measurements. It's given me some pretty funny results when I've tried it out*.

*Though quite possibly this is due to my inability to use a ruler.

  • I've had problems measuring body parts accurately with a ruler too. All parties were left disappointed.

  • I asked and she said it was a heavy duty chain lock (dont think it was a Kryptonite though) and some sort of crappy lock as well... She said that they took the cut locks/chain with them - I thought that was weird. Like theyre looking after the environment while they steal.
nah it's quite common, happened to me years ago
    shit news though

Why would they tho??? It doesnt make sense too me...

  • broken lock and chain had their prints on?

  • Must be the same Irish people who knock my door asking for scrap metal.

    *racist

removing the evidence of the crime... maybe, ask ed, apparently he knows everything

you are one of the lucky ones, most people don't get a knock, just the bare roof where lead used to be.

  • she did lock it to something other than itself didn't she?

  • Freelock? No, she was smarter than that. She locked it to railings, so wasnt just hauled away and done off site.

  • Perhaps they were Railway's railings?

  • downer on the theft, but for the sake of it

if she's buying new, why didn't the shop let her do a couple of test rides?

i heard once that you can go into an Evans and they'll take all your measurements. probs worth phoning first or looking into it on the web to see if they actually have a person who can do that in store

    also this maybe: http://cyclinginfo.co.uk/blog/bikes/road-bike-frame-size-guide/

  • I'm sure there was another thread about bike fitting, but this is the one the search revealed to me...

I'm thinking of building up a modern road bike for the summer and think it might be time to invest in a bike fit before buying a frame and cranks. Bikewisperer seems to be the main name that pops up, but I was wondering if there were any others that were good, but closer to the £100 mark, rather than the £150 one.

Plus, just for ease, I'd rather go to one based in London.

I would take the advice of the taggers on this one "pay a fucking pro."

  • specialized BG fit worked for me. don't remember how much it was though.
    they do them in sigmasport.

  • it was over a hundred quid a couple of years ago, cant imagine its gone down in cost

  • Any decent shop should be able to give you sound advice on fitting. That, combined with an hour of internet research, will give you £100 to spend on something useful. Like a Campy pizza cutter or similar.

    it's £120

  • I do own-bike fittings in my clinic, usually for patients but also for pain-free cyclists. I don't however have access to parts / spares. Check-out the website for more details:

  • On subject of frame sizing and moving from one bike to another (current project related) I saw something on the Cervelo site about stack and reach measurements as alternative to trad frame measurements and then today on Velonews Leonard Zinn did a piece about the same thing.

Basically it's about measuring from the BB as the axis around which all your contact points rotate and by plotting left-right and up-down from that point. That way you can reduce and compare all the combos of TT and HT and fork clearance to get properly comparable geometries, and then move a fit from one frame to another.

  • i still prefer effective top tube and a quick look at seat angle and head tube height to see how this will tweak position by a few mm (with ideal stem length)
it's easy to look at manufacturers charts and get the ETT info

Yes, but there's pro and there's pro. Actually on review £150 is ok. But a £250 Cyclefit isn't. I'm happy to dedicate a bit of money to a proper fit and sell and restock my bikes accordingly, but as my next build is hopefully going to be around £750 it needs to be a sensible % of that.

Cheers. Anyone have any other recommendations for London based ones? Or am I best off going out of town? Wasn't there one Schobble went to near Old St?

    Cheers I'll check it out.

I'd go for the Park BBQ tools myself. But in all seriousness I think the fit debate has been well covered. Plus ime even 'decent' shops seem to be well stocked with muppets with even less real knowledge than me and even more internez BS than several bike forums put together.

  • I have 4 bikes. If i could spend £25 on each to optimise their comfort and performance without adding weight. I'd do it in a instant.

So over £100 for a fitting and then some time spent translating this to your different bikes (surely the fitter would offer advice on further use of the fit figures), is far better value then it at first sounds. I could'nt even fit my bikes out with carbon fibre bottle cages for that.

  • Le Beau Velo in Shoreditch, I had a fitting there and it was excellent. About £150 from memory.

  • Cheers.
