more weekend dedication from Koijin and Bmmf, leading the way and good to read it.
Gotta say as someone who trains it most everywhere themself, and at weekends when they are sometimes compromised by engineering work that is doubly dedicated.I did a turbo trainer sesh friday but it wasnt high tech, 1 hour with 10 hill sprints in there, me and her whooping to loud house music, me on the fixed turning up the revs to rolla intensity as much as I could.
Didnt even go on a bike yesterday so that bodes well for a good work out tommorrow.

Done my weekly from Ipswich to London. Got all my positioning sorted so a fairly comfortable ride. Got a slightly annoyed when I visited a bike shop once back in London (to replace one of my lights that fell off my bag) to be told that I wouldn't know what to do with a 'real' bike.

Hobo: I'd be really interested in any details you have for your Ipswich route. Any chance of a GPX or gmap pedometer route? Failling those, verbal description would be grand if you are willing to share.
My parents have moved not too far away from there and I'm hoping to ride it when I visit.
What did they mean by proper bike? Were you riding a unicycle?!

I accompanied my girlfriend to see some chums in Clitheroe. Saturday night was spent eating an early festive dinner. Another chap and I managed this today, more or less, ending on 58 miles with 2000m ascension.
It was stonking, despite being a bit slipping slidey (including one minor tumble). Lots of smallish punchy climbs, and one larger slog over Lythe Fell Road. Cycling around the North of England really is the bees knees.
Yoikes. That would kill me stone dead at the mo. Don't think I've ridden up a hill since september.

two hours fixed road ride, couple of minor hills, murky as fook out,
but the slick black back of the tarmac snake round sandbanks was well worth turning out for, trying to up fixed miles over winter- want to hit the new track with godzilla legs and a heart pumping like a steam hammer. -

i have to agree with you.. north Lancs or north Yorks for the cyclo-cross scene, mountain biking, road cycling, fell running and occasional triathlon. It is hard to fault, when the lake district, yorkshire dales, north york moors, pennines are all on the doorstep..
and still dreaming of selling up and open a hostel/cafe/bike workshop near Settle when the kids have flown our nest.

Settle
Woah, flashback. I used to get stuff regularly from Settle Cycles until something weird happened and their website (in its familiar form) disappeared…

my brother-in-law lived close by in High Bentham and Gisburn for many years, then moved to Canada :(
i loved those short 1:4 climbs in and out of the dales on the bike the landscape around Settle is stunning also did a bit fell running up to pendle or around 3 peaks..

Absolutely! I've only done a handful of Northern rides so far, but I'm definitely on for more in the new year. Plotting an exciting route is dead easy, my approach has always been a bit "pot luck", but I've yet to go wrong.
I've not done the lake district yet, Hardknott Pass is high up[/nopunintended] on my list.

Got the next 4 Saturdays off work, and couldn't resist it today. About 20 miles around town, mainly getting your bog standard laps of Regents Park done ;)
Tomorrow's 'proper' ride is going to be fucking epic…
