No not fixed, the hubs have a freewheel body, so the fixed cog become a freewheel, no need for locking and all that bell and whistle.
40 holes were common for rear hubs back in the 50's.

ahh i see, for you classic lightweight i presume?
-
• #38079
Yep, still got a lots to go, so far with the frame, downtube shifter (with cable), rear hubs, ta crankset, bb, headset, stem, brakeset with brake levers (with cable), rear derailleur and 3 speeds cog (that turn out to be unnecessary) it's a shy under 5.3kg.
Not too bad insofar.

New gangsta

• #38084
That is handsome
-
• #38085
Now that's a nice looking Gangsta
-
• #38086
Looks Like Lots of Laughs Lars.
-
• #38087
That's a real nice build Lars, really tasteful. I wanna play.
I wish I could afford one, would build it up with profile cranks, hubs and bits, sun rims etc. Like a big bmx I guess.
-
• #38088
Thanks, yeah I wanted a robust bike for all riding; but this would make a great big bmx style bike too. In my opinion that's great about gangsta, it allows quite different setups.
-
• #38089
The Gangsta is a brilliant little bike, riding on Mavic Ellipse right? Can't wait to get the original fork in raw.
Lars, can you tell any difference between the weight of the clusterfork and the original?
-
• #38090
Yep, Ellipse wheels. I didn't actually pay much attention to clusterfork and can't say about the weight difference; the original fork is so much better looking!
-
• #38091
damn it I want a gansta now, is that the short or long one? and how tall are you lars if you dont mind me asking?
-
• #38092
That is the long one and I'm 180; I ride 54-56 track frames.
-
• #38093
thanks, i wonder if it would be a bit small for me as i'm 6'4" (193cm). I'll have to try one and find out.
-
• #38094
Spotter, measue your top tube length of your current bike, and compare it with the gangsta, top tube length are more important.
-
• #38095
I wish my bike was made from carbon fibre, the crash damage would have looked way more spectacular. Anyway off to Lee Cooper and in 4 weeks should have it repaired, sprayed and with some mudguard eyelets.
Got it back last week, should be able to get it running after work tonight I hope. Very happy with the repairs done by Lee.

Looks nice!
MAX tubing?
Was that easy to find?
-
• #38097
Thanks! MAX frames come around every so often, or did you mean was it easy to get spare tubes for the repair?
-
• #38098
New gangsta
This Gangsta is on of the nicest I have seen. Really want. The only thing I'd change is SPD pedals and a front brake for me. Excellent work Lars!
