Sounds like she has had some pretty horrendous and life changing injuries. Repair in peace! I'm not a religious man but feel strangely compelled to pray for her recovery.
Yes, the sense of relief you can feel if you hear that someone doesn't die is more than a little tempered by such absolutely horrific injuries. It takes a long time to recover from even non-life-changing injuries, and it sounds as if the injuries she has are injuries from which she won't recover, if she survives. You may feel 'compelled to pray' because one feels so helpless in that situation. Indirectly, there's a lot you can do to help campaign that such incidents become fewer (they're not going to stop completely).
