Mini pumps

  • Well I've just read the whole of this thread hoping to find a mini pump that attaches to the valve securely (e.g. screws onto the valve) because this has always been the weak element of the minipumps I've had/have (a pocket rocket to date). There maybe a technique I'm missing here (or the pump has died from un-use) but I'd like something to rely on and not some fiddling about on the side of the road hit and miss malarkey.

  • the lezyne ones do

    like this

first image i have found, you can get slimer ons
was thinking of getting one myself, as i keep snapping valves off (well the little bit at the top)

  • Thanks 33t - thats the sort of thing.

  • Update on that incredibly small pump I bought a while ago(https://www.lfgss.com/post1356469-493.html). It fits into those tiny Conti saddle packs that come with a inner and two tyre levers, together with a pack of pre-glued patches and a little hub-nut spanner.

Considering the whole lot weighs next to nothing, and is around 10x6x3 cm. Its a great little emergency pack for my evening/weekend rides.

As for getting to 100PSI. It aint easy, but I got there. I suspect my swearing scared some of the surrounding air into the relative safety of the tyre, more than anything else. The valve screws on securely though, so your hands are more free for battling the air in.

I really happy with it overall. But then I have a more user friendly pump for the commuter and 29er, plus a track pump at home. So I'm not expecting to have to use it too much.

  • Found this and thought it might be of interest, minimum effort but maximum gain :)

  • Except that most garage can't push more than 50psi (cars usually required 22-35psi.

If you have an MTB with fat tyres, I'm sure that'll be fine.

  • Topeak Mini dual action gets my vote, like this but with Gauge.

  • Anyone got experience of the SKS teleskop mini pump?

  • Am mildly happy. My favourite mini pump, the carhartt one that was given away free is now being sold at Bikehut (without the carhartt branding).

    Exactly the same pump, £22.

So finally have a pump that can stay in the camelback for mtb rides and one in my usual bag for commuting/fixie skiddering around town.

  • Topeak Rocket Micro CB Pump
    £32.99

Had a puncture in the field the otherday to test my new pump on.. verdict: a rubbish little pump, doesn't generate enough pressure even to locate the hole never mind ride on.. resorted to gas instead.

So I need a new mini pump
Can anyone advise on these two?

    Lezyne Pressure Drive Mini Pump

    Topeak Mini Morph Pump

  • My LBS, the oldest and most respected in town, carry both Topeak and Lezyne pumps. The proprietor told me that Lezyne are far superior even though Topeak may have one or two nice looking designs. So, I bought this model from him: http://www.lezyne.com/products/hand-pumps/mini-pumps-high-pressure/swivel-drive-hp. Very happy with it. The hose makes life so much easier, and achieving high pressure is easy. And, it looks good. Win.

  • seriously

the best mini pump i have is the carharrt one, now available from halfords

    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_700560_langId_-1_categoryId_165661

it has a foot rest (so like a mini track pump) a tube to connect to the valve and can get over 100 psi with relative ease

i have a much more expensive lezyne pump on my road bike but it is not as good as the cheaper alternative http://www.wiggle.co.uk/lezyne-carbon-drive-mini-pump/

  • ^ +1 I dont even have a track pump as this thing can crank up the pressure easily. It's a little big for jersey pockets but is perfect in a bag. £22 & job done.

  • i got both the mini Lezyne and the morph, both great pumps.
if you are travelling light, go for the Lezyne
if you have a bigger bag go for the morph.

  • Lezyne pumps are made of pure win. True FACT.

  • I have the Pressure Drive, it's a bloody handy mini and as shredder says, having a hose is a good feature, which both of those do. The lezyne has the better design here (imo) with screw in contacts rather than rubber seals. I mainly use the Topeak Road Morph which is great (basically a bigger version of the on you are looking at) Comparing the two, the Lezyne seems to be better made. The Topeak rubber valve seal needs replacing as does the seal of the gauge/hose, that said it has had more use. You won't go too far wrong with either.

  • Have the Lezyne one and it's ace. It's well built too as it survived an accidental trip in the washing machine with no problems. Fits in jersey when not carrying a bag and no danger of ever damaging the valve.

  • +1 on the Lezyne.

  • What's the pump that Scott always features in his pouches?

  • Not sure, but looks pretty feeble.

I'd advise buying the Lezyne HP over the Mini Morph every time. Snapped two foot-stands on the Morph's. Plus, the former looks pretty.

  • You look pretty.

  • someone just bought me that limited edition Supreme lezyne pump (tres hipster, I know) ...
    and it's BEAUTIFUL

  • Okay I'm sold on the Lezyne but which one is the best in terms of small but giving good pressure?

    Lezyne Alloy Drive Mini Pump

    Lezyne HV Drive Mini Pump

Lezyne Micro Floor Drive - HV

  • Micro floor drive. So much easier to get high pressure with the leverage.

Btw, the HV is high volume (mtb) and the HP is high pressure (road)

  • great just bought a

Micro Floor Drive HP from tredz!
