• Hi,

I really want to try bike polo. I emailed 'theherbsman' at birminghambikepolo.com and he/she said I should check this forum to see when you guys will be playing. I'm a student and live in Selly Oak - apparently there are a few polo players in or near Selly Oak, so maybe I could arrange to ride down to highgate with anyone who lives in Selly Oak who's playing on Sunday?

  • Paging Hyper...

  • I don't think Hyper is playing this weekend. The court is here though:

    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=highgate+park+birmingham&oe=&ie=UTF8&hl=en&hq=highgate+park&hnear=Birmingham,+West+Midlands,+United+Kingdom&ll=52.467488,-1.883705&spn=0.006079,0.013003&t=h&z=16

Come along, bring a bike that you don't mind getting bashed if you have one, if not we'll probably be able to lend you one, and a mallet. We'll start around 10am.

and a flask of coffee/soup/something warm is also a good idea.

  • Court clearing Saturday 4th December after 5pm - then pub

    • Simple (after 5pm)
    • danwentskiing (finish work at 6, so 6.05) if needed, if it's done, to the pub!
    • dan_lj
    • LucasR (5pm in the dark gritting a urban cricket pitch, I must like polo) pub possible
    • 4ndy

I'll bring a snow-shovel and broom to work, can someone in a car pick them up when they get into town? On Your Bike, 33-40 Bradford Street (it's just around the corner from Highgate Park). Also, if that person can leave them in their car, I'll take them back Sunday morning. Thanks!

    I can pick them up.

  • Thanks Lucas, look out for the anchor pub, we're opposite there.

  • The snow is turned to slush here. I am going to bail on tonight, but I have 30kg of ice melt that I will bring tomorrow morning. I will arrive early and sort the court if needed tomorrow morning.

  • Cool - I rode past the court this morning, and it was still covered in snow. Having said that, our carpark down the road is now about 50% snow, so hopefully it'll be clear.

If more locally-based people are still coming, I reckon we could do with scattering salt/grit tonight to prevent it re-freezing. Pistaboy knows a grit bin nearby.

  • I'll still be there, whats the best way to spread grit? just throw it around with a shovel?

  • Dunno - I guess we'll find out.

Can someone else pick up my spade and broom!?!? I'm not carrying them from OYB to the court, then all the way home!

  • Let me know how the court looks. I have ice melt vs grit. It will leave no trace after it melts the ice. I will come a couple hours early if needed. I am a bit concerned the grit will be slippery

  • Hey Lucas - we (actually, I only showed up for the last 15 mins) cleared pretty much all the snow and then gritted it pretty extensively. I reckon it will be totally playable, especially if it continues to rain tonight.

I'm going to bring a broom to sweep up any excess grit. If you can bring this 'snow melt' (I don't know what that is), just in case, that's perfect. I wouldn't get there any earlier than 9.30, unless you enjoy wasting your time!

I'll PM you my number, I'm sure it'll come in useful in the future, and hopefully save you wasted journeys!

  • Sunday 5th December, Highgate, 10am - Court is clear, we're definitely playing!

Hopefully Alex will get a bike (I'll bring a spare mallet - it seems others do too now) and join us for proper 3 v 3s.

Been and picked up a bike rack off a mate, then broke it on the journey home and possibly my car bangs head against wall so we shall see if alex has a bike.

I too will bring a brush/broom tomorrow to clear what grit is lying about.

Eventful weekend so far: fought off a mugger, fell down a flight of stairs, been clay pigeon shooting, cleared snow and polo tomorrow.. I'll need to sleep monday, oh hang on I cant i'm going pit bike supermoto racing :|

  • I am brining 4 mallets, three cones (I think Simple has some as well).

Anyone know a local supplier of HDPE Yellow, Blue or Red 2 inch ~ 63mm diameter pipe (have seen all online but not in UK)? Also, Strait Aluminium Tubing (6061-T6 with 19mm O.D.). Would like to build a dozen or so mallets to see what plays the best.

  • pm 2 squeak for aluminium,
Will grab my cone in the morning (tis up the farm yard)

oh an ''ooo look at you getting all fine tuned and shit'' :)

Drain Center on Sherlock St, Digbeth have yellow pipe in stock, I went and priced it up a few months ago when I was contemplating making bulk heads to sell.

  • is it expensive? and do you have to buy it in long lengths?

  • I'm pretty desperate for about a metre of yellow, so could come in on a group order.

I also still have two un-drilled, capped CrackFox yellow heads, £5 each. If I get really desperate, I'll just cut out the caps and use those bits, but it would be a shame as they're really well made.

Can't remember exactly but it was probably in 3m lengths and about £15... something like that.

  • found it, knew I posted the info on here
