If you are willing to pay for custom (as you seem to be from the retrobike thread you started) why not contact either belk (google them) or Scott not Scott of this forum?

Speaking as someone who has had a (custom) courier bag containing my laptop stolen I'd say that if someone's going to nick your laptop they probably aren't going to bother with the niceties of taking it out of your bag in order to do so. If anything, a locked canvas bag is surely going to activate some tealeaf "lightbulb over the head" moment: it's locked, ergo it must contain something valuable.

Hi, I have emailed levrier in Bristol (I'm in bath).
If there were a lockable zipped inner pocket with the normal Velcro flap it would be what I'm looking for.
Not just zipped externally.

Lockable inner pocket is better. But surely any thief stealing a bag will steal it no matter, and can just cut the fabric to get inside it later. Making sure it doesn't look like laptop case is the best bet.

My work says "lockable bags which don't look like laptop bags" so that is what I am looking for.
I have a 1998 Timbuk2 which I love but it doesn't meet the criteria.

Who're you in Bath then? I only know about 4 or 5 fixed riders down this way!

Work in bath, live in Calne. Not got a fixed now but I did have one in bristol in 1999. Sold it cos the bB shell was knackered. Too hilly on way to work for fixed.

Only just found this thread - but as mentioned above I (Levrier) can make a bag with a lockable zipped pocket no problem, if thats what your work say you have to have for your bag.
Obviously it wont stop anyone determined to steal it but as you say, it wont look like an ugly laptop bag anyway :)
If you really want to pay through the nose I can get hold of kevlar or dyneema/spectra which is a pain to work with as it is pretty much a nightmare to cut through... :) Probably overkill though if you just want to comply with your company rules.

1: Cycle Couriers will be in higher demand as the use of motor vehicles in cities are reduced
2: Therefore more people will be reliant on quick reliable delivery sources, i.e. cycle couriers
3: Current Courier bags seem to be mono straps - is it for ease of use when delivering letters?
4; There is a large number of accidents between motor vehicles and cyclists
5: There are a large number of bikes stolen in the city
6: Cycle Couriers mainly use Fixed gear bikes? is it because they are more reliable due to less equipment to go wrong?
7: Cycle couriers are style conscious, is this fixed gear styling important in the design of a courier bag?
1: Cycle Couriers will be in higher demand as the use of motor vehicles in cities are reduced
2: Therefore more people will be reliant on quick reliable delivery sources, i.e. cycle couriers
-The opposite is the reality. The need for our resources is is steadily getting smaller due to the digitalization of the stuff we carry.
3: Current Courier bags seem to be mono straps - is it for ease of use when delivering letters?
-Most 'professional' courier bags have a cross-strap design, not a single strap. More and more people are using backpacks too.
4; There is a large number of accidents between motor vehicles and cyclists
5: There are a large number of bikes stolen in the city
-These things are irrelevant.
6: Cycle Couriers mainly use Fixed gear bikes? is it because they are more reliable due to less equipment to go wrong?
-I used to take it for granted when I rode a track bike for work and nothing went wrong, now I am on gears I miss the simplicity. So yes.
7: Cycle couriers are style conscious, is this fixed gear styling important in the design of a courier bag?
-Not just speaking for myself, cycle couriers are not style conscious. No more so than the average person. I also don't see how you could incorporate "fixed gear styling" into a bag, let alone the fact that cycle couriers ride all sorts of different bikes. A mountain bike themed bag would be cooler than a fixed one, at least couriers were cool when mountain bikes were the tool of choice.

Incorporate fixed gear Styling means it'll have a picture of a cog on it... Or a natty slogan like 'fixie fo life'. I'd buy a bag like that.
4 isn't just unimportant, it's not true.
Hello,
Trying to find a messenger / courier bag which has a zip and is lockable. The zip must have the kind of "D" rings on it where you can put a small padlock through.
I know if someone wanted to they could always slash the bag, but I'm looking for a bag for my laptop which is lockable, and doesn't look like a laptop bag!
Cheers
Steve
