How much do you weigh? If you're over 20kg, you probably shouldn't go near the Alien. Worst.Clamp.Ever.
I weigh more than 20kg. Indeed, I'm about 78kg so thanks for that tip too.

I'm converting my old Planet X road bike to a hybrid for my father in law.
Starting with these:
Can't decide whether they're anti, because you know, campag on a hybrid!
Or whether they're porn, because as flat bar shifters go they're fucking awesome.
Should have the whole thing finished this weekend.

Very nice Will. Bringing her out this weekend?

I new there had been problems in the past. But I thought all that was sorted?

Bit of a messy merge that BTW.

....
What budget tyres are decent, I'm between the vittoria zaffiro and the schwable lugano's....
can't comment on the zaffiro, I've only used Vittoria rubino pros and luganos. I thought the luganos had all round better grip, Inc the wet and I didn't have a puncture.

If you want nice riding budget tyres. A lot of cheapskate roadies go for micheling lithions. Life's too short for cheap tyres though. ;)
-
• #37259
what's budget? vittoria randonneurs aren't expensive and will last you long time.

@ bar angle
Feels really uncomfortable riding the hood unless it's tilted up a bit
its the mudguard on top of the rear calliper for some special reason?

The easybendium M3 bolts got fixed with the Cyclops mod, but the fundamentally flawed clamp remains the same

I've had 700x23 lugano's on my commuter since april, about 7/8 miles a day roughly... whats that? 1800 miles roughly.
The back one has recently been binned, was getting a puncture a week, front one should follow soon.Replaced them with Bontrager Hardcase racelites for the extra puncture protection. A friend told me it was worth forking out for kevlar or similar added protection. £3 extra per tyre seemed worth it.

very tempted by those bontager hardcase racelights but hate the grey on the tyres.
hmmm.

I just went for a swim at the beach and had to walk home with sand in my crack.
Did I say swim? I meant shagging.
^ good post, captain obvious.
What exactly are you currently projecting here?

Campagnolo used to offer mountainbike bits during the first half of the nineties, I don't think it's anti.

have a look at the nitto noodle/randos bar, they're flat on the top and the drop as well, so with the bar tilted up a bit, the drop will only be slightly tilted;

super comfortable too.

I did clean it out but to no avail plus the angle of the cable routing where it meets the head set is really tight which does not help matters at all. Believe me if i could have i would have.
Now.... any complements ? Ha, as if. -

MDCCs right, the Alien post is fundamentally flawed, get the USE sumo better clamp design and likewise is availble in Ti, Cardboard and Alu
-
• #37270
EC70 is a bit dearer at £80, but for the money the USE is hard to beat -
• #37271
Why does it need to be carbon? If I wanted a light seatpost I'd get a Thomson Masterpiece.
-
• #37272
Soaks up the bumps init.

Cheers Gabe. That was another thought, just wondered if anyone had any experience. Easton stuff wrecks me tho. It's all so good, but I find their branding absoulte gash.
And in all seriousness I do notice a slight difference in my current cheapish carbon post compared to a Van Nichols one... which is basically a Thomson. So if there's a good strong carbon post around the £60-70 mark I'd choose it over a heavier Thomson.
-
• #37274
I'd like to see the weight of a Masterpiece compared to a carbon one you'd rather buy of the same length.
-
• #37275
The thomson is stiff as fuck, some people says that the carbon one is more forgiving, but I don't know how much an impact seatpost have on ride comfort, mdcc?
