Dust caps for cranks: the best place to save weight.
-
• #184
Why would you need to save weight on a track bike? Not like you have any hills. Rotational weight (wheels and tires) is important to save as it affects your acceleration. The rest is not that important.
The aerodynamic drag saved by covering the hole in the cranks would probably be worth more than the few grams saved...

Use cellotape then.
Aerodynamic and light. -

I think i've got a pair of silver Sugio ones at home. The classic style rather than allen key ones.
I'd guess about £5. Let me know if your interested.
Or I've got some campag ones, but I've got not idea about price on those at the mo, and I wouldn't let them go for less than market value.

@hugo7 - I'd be keen to give them a go if you could post them to Birmingham for a little more cash? Thanks for that.
@ dutch cheese. I actually want these dust caps, to do the job that they are designed for, after using sellotape and even blue-tack. I now want something better. Thanks for your input.

Just joking about cellotape.
Reason why I (and most other racers) always dumped dust caps for crank arms immediately, even Campagnolo, was:- easier and qiucker to check torque and retighten crank bolts
- screwing on/off dust caps can ruin the threads, which is terminal for the crank arms.
Go for it, if you like the looks.

Anyone interested in rims for tubular tyres, carbon, FIR Antara?
I've bought a pair, but I'm not going to ride with 18 spoke wheels.
Seems that the previous owner has used them on the track only and for kids of 8 - 10 years old.S O L D S O L D S O L D S O L D

GIzmond was after a light wheelset. No idea how tubby he is or how strong the rims are, but maybe drop him a PM.

I've seen that, but I think he's after something lighter and he wants clincher.

Got my bonts through. After trying some 45s that where too big, I picked up some 44s.... which are very very slightly too small :-(
My loss, your gain.
Tried on, heated (which can be re-done as many times as you want), and used for 10 minutes on the turbo, so as new.

If you did more endurance stuff, your feet would swell up, and you could wear the 45s.

^this.
It's only bad if you run indoor racing tubs! (which plenty of people have done and wondered why they lasted two weeks)
