I have a Thomson in 130 that I'm not using, not sure of the degree on it though

Cheers guys. That's a steep price for 13 cm of alu though!
Bainbridge, any way of checking? If you swap your current stem for the Tompson - if it is 17 degrees it will be parallel with the ground. I think the other option would be 10 or 6 degrees, which means it would point up slightly.
If it is 17 I'll have it off you if the price is right!

I think Easton do 17 degree stems too
Your reach should be less than 130mm with a 17 degree stem as the arc brings the bars back closer to your chest. The 120mm will be fine if you nudge the saddle forward 3mm I reckon.
The 3T one is shiny though...

Cheers - I've seen those 3Ts around before - didn't realise I could get them in 17deg.
The supplied stem was actually 140m(!) - which is a bit long as standard. The reach felt about right so a lower 130 should work out about right.
Reckon I'll go for that 3T, unless Bainbridge can get his protractor out!

17/73 degrees parallel to the ground is completely incorrect my friend. It is dependent on the angle of the head tube of the frame too.
A 17/73 stem will only be parallel to the ground if the head tube angle is 73 degrees. The head angle changes from frame size to frame size and from brand to brand. Typically smaller frame sizes will have an head angle which is shallower than 73 degrees and larger frame sizes will have a steeper head angles.
@Bainbridge. The full size and spec of the Thomson stem has the details already laser etched on it. You will find the angle, length and size there. Just look.
To me that looks like a 130 with a 10 degree angle. -

The Bontrager 'Race' stems come in 17. I picked one up for £4 on ebay. Not pretty, but do the job.
The headtube on my new bike is a little high so the supplied 6 degree stem means the bars end up about 2cm high. A 17/73 degree stem (parallel with the ground) would make things about right, but NO-ONE has any in stock!
I'd like ideally 130mm. (to be fair Planet x do have 120mm left - which I might end up going for).
Ritchey, Thompson, Planet X all have such stems listed, but I've contacted suppliers and they can't get them.
Anyone know where I can get one? Or better still have one for sale?
