  • A big headache for organizers is teams that don't turn up, for whatever reasons (Oxford pah!). Wildcat tourney was a good way of solving that problem and rewarding teams that are commited and keen, but means you have to host an extra day and people have to take extra time off work etc.

  • Just read through all the arguments about city. I think that big competitions like the Euros and Worlds can be "best of the best" and "fun and inclusive" by the way of Wildcard tourneys. Its the perfect solution, teams of lower levels from smaller cities can play in the wildcard and soak up the atmosphere and play some different competition, and better teams from bigger cities still get to compete.

    spot on for me

  • Some Manchester players were talking about hosting the euros. Might have been 2012 though...

  • i'm well up for sharing an apartment with pique for a week. One rule: no Brown.

  • Thread for bidding on LOBP:

Clem, why are you so stressed about this bid thing?
    Take it easy.....

  • ...
    x2, FUCK THEM!

European is people who are using Euro money.

    That's the UK out then... ; )

  • I think teams should be selected by CITY.

As this represents the polo communities more than selected by country.

  • @ gponx:
the idea is to know asap who and when...I think that 5 months before is enough late for biding. No need some complete bid, just a few good informations. More than one month to put this up isn't enough?
People around europe need to manage travel plans and qualfications systems.
Last year the vote was in november i think, and the tourney in july.

  • why having a bid ? almost everybody seems okay with barca doing it. The next thing is when, but only the hosting city can decided it.

selection by city is a really shitty option. We just have to do a wildcard tourney, so everybody can come and have a chance to play in the ehbpc.

  • I'd aim to give people a bare minimum of 3 months notice to a confirmed date, this means the travel's still cheap... ideally you'd give 6 months notice?

Sounds like Alej is on it and everyone's backing Barca on LOBP, no other mystery bids yet... the bid is important as it's the only fair way of deciding which country gets to host the torunament. You bid/pitch (if it's contested) then everyone votes/decides.

  • Having a bid to put some information on web.
Like the dates and all the stuff like this...

  • why having a bid ? almost everybody seems okay with barca doing it.

I can't imagine everybody could be ok with Barcelona organising the Euro, we don't even know how many courts there will be, the size of the courts, the number of teams, the housing management and the way the spots will be given (city or country).

Even if it looks like Barcelona is the only city who want (can) organizing the Euros in 2011, it could be good to have answers of these basic questions, in the next weeks.

  • For my part, I think it's really important to set the dates very soon, so that everybody (teams and other tournament organisers) can plan for next year. The sooner we know, the better. And it's obvious that organizing the euro's needs more than two month. Ask Uolmo.

Selection should not be part of the organizers task. They only have to allocate a number of teams for each country. Then, it's up to each country to determine the selection process (city, qualification tournament...).

Like I said, dates are late may, early june. Take 3 weekends on those dates and that's when it'll very likely be. They are location dependent, so I can't confirm the specific weekend yet.

We've been working on the euros since we started the Sexy Polo Beer tournament, so we probably have a better idea than what you might think.

  • Selection should not be part of the organizers task.

Until each country/scene has an organising body, or until there is a European body, I disagree with this wholeheartedly.

  • Selection process is the work of every community. Number of teams is the work of organizers. Number of slots per city-country should be a decision made by organizers on the people advices.

    agreed

  • Do you already have an idea about a ratio for every country? Or the way you gonna use to choose it?

I think that it would be a good way to begin with the creation of an organizing body in each country.

    Perfect !

  • sorry, deleted your last post as it had no reference to anything and was only your 2nd post, thought it was spam.

  • Do you already have an idea about a ratio for every country? Or the way you gonna use to choose it?

I have an idea of which communities have more weight in Europe. ;)
Since we are very much dependent on the amount of courts, it is useless to open that can of worms at this point.
    One thing at a time.

  • Kevin, on LOBP, argue against the 2 way, country and city.
For him the NA way looks more logical: make 4 great tourney during season and pick the best teams...

Is this kind of stuff possible for Euro?

  • Yes. East (berlin?), west (london?), south (dunno. Barca or Italy), north (dunno, Adam?). Decent idea.
