  • Anyone see a pattern in my posting? Late 80s - Mid 90s PC games4lyf!

  • RE4 sucked. RE2 was amazing.

No! Played on the cube it is one of the best ever games. Amazing to look at, soudscape is so atmospheric (creepy chanting monks) and was long and varied.

hard to say what are my favorite games. Depends so much on other factors and how jaded i've become. First time I played pong (in 1972Multiplayer) i was blown away. Boring as shit now. First time a headcrab jumped me in HL was a buzz. Doom 1 rocked and is now tredious. Ageing brings jadedness and games need to be much more special to stand out. Bayonetta is the only recent game I couldn;t put down. The hardest recent game was ninja gaiden which i strained my thumb playing and smashed the controller in fustration...so that's good i suppose.

  • anyone else getting a little annoyed with the fifa11 XBOX live? I've played a few head to head matches with randomers and I'd say I've completed perhaps 10% of the matches. People just quite when they go a goal behind.

Just now I put in the option for the lowest possible max DNF% was beating the guy 4-0 just after half-time and even that far in he just quit.

  • My favourite titles:

Megadrive: Sonic, Streets of Rage, Altered Beast.

    PS:

    Gran Turismo
    Micro Machines V3
    FF7 & FF8
Metal Gear Solid - all of them
    Timesplitters
    Tekken Tag Tournament
    Street Fighter EX2
GTA - All of them (fave is Vice City, though. Surely the best vidyagame soundtrack ever?)
    PES 4-6
FIFA09 - FIFA 11 - pretty much the only game i'd play now.

  • Max Payne was wicked too. Great music, bullet time that I could never make work, great hacks.

  • Syphon Filter was a nice little game. It was an MGS/Bond-style stealth-'em-up IIRC.

I've been known to ragequit on occasion. The disconnection problem was big on FIFA09 for the PS3, i'd connect maybe once in 10 attempts. EA seemed to have fixed the servers for 11 'cause it was perfect when I was playing online, for the PS3 at least.. What's your broadband upload speed? That makes a pretty big difference.

  • I think the best storyline for a game has to be Metal Gear solid 1.

I wouldn't says best (subjective after all) but it's definitely the first games that feel more like a movie with it's twist and turn taking you to the unexpected.

The only thing I dislike (slightly) of MGS is the card keys for metal gear Rex, that took age to get up and doWn.

  • the broadband's pretty good, not sure on the specific speed though. Do get a little lag now and then but I'd say it's at least average for what everyone else is playing on. Just as a side note, on the Team Play version I hardly ever see people quit and think I've only lost connection myself once so dunno if the frequency in head to head could be attributed to connection problems.

I've had two games recently where the other guy has given away a penalty in the first few minutes, I've scored and then instantly the game is over..

  • I think he means people quitting when losing rather than disconnections. I noticed the same on fifa 2010. Skydancer you're. completely right, and lpg good call on timesplitters. To me timesplitters 2 is the perfect fps. There's never been one iv enjoyed as much.

  • wibble stick to the forumengers, then if they quit after going a goal down, you can name and shame..

  • :p

  • i've only ever ragequit after being 3 nil down at half time, after a really bad run of losses and a firm belief that defensive mistakes are 'the f-ing games fault', or if the opponent is playing with enhanced player stats using Live Season! or something like that ..

we really have to get a FIFA league going, so much potential.

  • there is a fifa league going.

    league name: LFGSS
    Password: fixie

(for both XBOX and PS3 I believe)

  • I know but last time I checked (about a month ago) there were only like 3 people on the PS3 league, and I don't think anyone had played each other :s. How's the xbox league?

  • Some games that defined my childhood/early adolescence:
    C&C Red Alert

The first PS1 disc I had was the Official Playstaion Magazine Demo Disc 01, which had the first level of the first C&C on it. It automatically reset after about half an hour but I still played it for about a month solid.

This is a bit of a longshot, but does anyone remember this old Net Yaroze game for the Playstation - Gravitiation? Came free with one of the demo discs. Had a lot of fun playing on this little game.

  • A Gravitation clone is now available as an XBLA indy game. Same gameplay

YES! Timesplitters was / is amazing I remember playing future perfect (3rd one) online on ps2 that was great but really ts2 was the best one. Playing with just bricks on virus lol.

What I find funny about that game is the sheer level of customization I don't think I've seen it that deep in a game since.

    Naff name, but looks fun!

RDR looks fun, sounds fun and IS fun..............for a bit. Then it gets pretty samey. Very boring towards the end.

Haven't played the undead DLC though so can't comment on that

  • ^^ I feel the same way about all sandbox/open world games. However I feel Red Dead was the best so far purely because they are dealing with a much more sparse populated setting, so they can pour all their efforts into little pockets.

    Still...it got old fast.

Completely agree on the single player - never got around to playing multiplayer. I was on a limited timeframe so had to zoom through the campaign in one weekend sucking all the enjoyment out of it.

    Undead looks a laugh.

  • almost to a game the sandbox nature just means you're filling time doing the same missions over and over.

Variety is the spice of life.

  • Undead IS a laugh, if you like the story of the original RDR, you won't like the Undead storyline, but it's defintely worth playing as it's a lots of fun with more achievement to do.

the best part is that you need to search the dead undead for ammo and protect towns for more ammos, etc.

  • Sandbox games are repetitive, however some of them draw you in and you don't get bored.

I loved Oblivion, and Fallout 3 made me lose more hours than any other game. I'm not buying Fallout New Vegas yet because I have lots of work on at the moment and I can't really afford to start a time-sink (in a good way) like that at the moment.

Having said that I have just got COD Black Ops and the multiplayer is getting its claws into me
