It's totally possible, disc calipers require the same amount of cable pull as a v-brake. If you run double brakes, you should not get skid spots so much anyway. The rotors do get damaged whilst playing polo, more or less depending on how you ride, I have broken 1 rotor and bent another 5 i guess, some bend back really well, others don't. You may want to build some kind of guard to protect the rotor.
