All of those questions fall firmly into the category of "because GA2G says so". There is nothing more behind any of it, aside from various rubbish such as the "Sold Secure Conspiracy" and a whole bunch of anecdotal evidence about what happened to someone who someone told me about someon who knew someone who locked their bike up with one of those and it got stolen so they are crap.
