Longer ones are for deep section wheels I think. As for potential problems? Maybe they sag after extended use? I don't know.

This wont be a problem. Athough somone on here mentioed that the threadig in in the same place reardless of nipple length. Which I dont agree wih. But then Ive never physicall checked.

Poor show Gav - you were straight in there with the vice thread, now you hit this with a real response... what's the problem - you were almost there with the nipple sag?
This one too much of an open goal?

you can get away with +/- 2mm with spokes. spokecalc is often 2mm long as well
Please forgive the double entendre :-)
I'm building a set of wheels using DT Swiss New Aero bladed spokes. I've built the front wheel no problem, but am having trouble getting the right sized spokes for the rear - if I use 12mm nipples as I've always used before. I can get the right sized spokes if I use 14mm (or 16mm) nipples. I haven't a clue what functional difference this would make to the wheel, can anyone enlighten me?
