  • The red evans probably is a track frame but it's tricky to date just from the parts. I believe they have been building since the 50s but you usually only see later ones. I believe they had the frames built by someone else by the 80s, Roberts perhaps. My knowledge is sketchy. The lugs look very Nervex and the forks are skinny. That must make it earlier, probably no later than the early 70s and those skinny forks make me think 60s. The horizontal dropouts are very basic, which might make it earlier still. Take no notice of the paint, it's likely to be newer and there was no difficulty getting hold of the stickers last time I looked.

Unfortunately, the Evans name is probably almost worthless as a collectors item but you still have a decent frame that must be worth £60 or more to someone. if it's 24 inches, it might just fit me.

  • Hilarystone has 4 for sale in every single one of hos seatpost threads. UTFS

Second Hilary Stone Seatpost thread. Took me 56 seconds.

Campagnolo Chorus Seatpost. Comes in sizes 26.8/27.0/27.2 plus many many more. Could also be Triumphe, Victory, or c-record as I believe the previous years models are just moved down the line. All made in ITALY!

    FFS. HTFU & UTFS.

  • nope c record looks different.

    like this

    or this

  • I have a C-Record. Looks that second pic.

  • Don't know, but the seller left the headset races in when he powdercoated it!

Judging by the clearances and pie-plate on the back wheel I'd say a pretty low-end gaspipe model. Possibly not orignal forks.

Thanks - it seems to ride okay for a very old low-end bike, or maybe I am just not very discerning :)

  • Anyone know what frame this is?

if you scroll down to the last picture, where the "artist" is possing with the owner of the bike.... just under it they say the brand and model of the bike.....

  • Picked this up a couple of weeks ago as a bit of a winter hack, not really sure what it is though, seller seemed to think it could be a '70s Raleigh.
Feels pretty light (really light compared to my chunky '61 Raleigh tourer), but I'm not sure how much of that is the modern 700cs vs the steel 27's on my other one.
    Pics:

Ignore the saddle height in the later pics, my mate borrowed it today and he's a bit short for the frame.

Any help would be gratefully received <3

edit: forgot to take a pic of the forks, can do that tomorrow if it'll help...

  • any frame number on the bottom bracket?
    what is the seatpost diameter?
lugs and headbadge don't point to a raleigh (i think)
also the geometry and lugs look older than 70's to me.
did the forks come with the frame originally???

    • No visible frame number - the rattlecan job is pretty thick so it may well be under there somewhere. Might rub the BB base down and have a look if no luck otherwise, but I thought I'd post it up first and see if anyone knew it from the lugs.
    • Will have a measure in the morning, thanks
    • I'm inclined to agree on the headbadge, no idea about the lugs
    • Ace, old school = cool
    • No idea whatsoever, seller bought it about a year or so ago from a guy that homebuilt it. Didn't mention/know whether it was from frame or f&f though. Will get a shot of the fork crown tomorrow and see if that helps.

    Thanks!

  • I had a Dawes like that.

  • Don't suppose anyone can tell me what model this Raleigh bike is?? I'm told it is a 1980's bike. Recently bought it off eBay as a singlespeed.

    .

    Cheers

Its a raleigh ace. Not a record or a road ace, just the bogo one. I have the same thing in my shed right now, though mine looks a bit bigger in the top tube (54st 57tt).
Mine rides nice but is in horrific visual conditon and I made it worse to make it less stealable. Mine had black & white chequered decals on it (factory) so I was guessing it was probably early - mid 70's 1974 was the year mentioned to me. I'm basing this on th similar front lugs and general proportions :)

  • can anybody tell me about seatpost nr.58 in the picture below, hilary stone says it is a french laprade, does anybody know when these where made?

    cheers

  • 59? (which is obviously a Laprade)

    Or 58, too?

  • well hilary describes 58 as a laprade and 59 is obviously an sr laprade. I bought a bike 1 year ago and it also had the same seatpost and it was described to me by the owner as a french laprade, i'd like to use this seatpost in a period build and therefore would like to know how old it is.

Don't think it's a Raleigh. It is what it is, a winter hack. Stop worrying and ride.
