  • Is there any way we can get the fixture releases put up on the league site? It is pretty hard to sort through this 13 page thread to find fixtures. Thanks.

  • Apologies for that, I only just got round to making all the changes to the final list. It was emailed to Pique on Monday so it should be up soon.

  • Cheers. No need to apologize.

  • Heythrop - thanks for the games :)

  • Los Coños vs Heythrop Lions.

    5-0, 5-0, 5-1

    Thursday 18th November 2010, 8pm, Newington

Heythrop turned up with 6 people, Josh, Joe, Tom, Luke, Hannah & Annie, a couple more turned up later. All of them were either riding road fixed gears, or geared bikes.

In the first game Heythrop played Josh, Luke and Joe. The game started with a very early goal for Los Coños, after 10 seconds. Heythrop played a very brave 3 out tactic, and quickly conceded 4 more goals, with Los Coños winning 5-0 in 3 minutes 20 seconds.

    5-0
    Ali 10sec
    Jo 50sec
    Sarah 2 min
    Sarah 2 min 30sec
    Jo 3 min 20sec

The second game was very similar to the first game, Heythrop had a couple of good passages, but Los Coños scored after 20 seconds, and went on to win 5-0 in 4 minutes.

    5-0
    Jo 15 sec
    Sarah 1 min 5sec
    Jo 2 min 30sec
    Sarah 3 min 30sec
    Ali 4 min

For the final game the Lions made a substitution, Tom coming on to replace Josh. I believe someone said this was the first time Tom had played polo, some introduction to the sport. This time it took a little longer for the first goal, taking 40 seconds, and Heythrop had periods where they played two out, frustrating Los Coños a little more than in the previous two games. Heythrop had a chance, but couldn't score, Los Coños scored a couple of quick goals, and it looked like the game might head the same way. Suddenly out of nowhere Heythrop attacked, Tom hit an excellent shot, which went through all the defenders, and a massive cheer went up round the court, they had scored. Los Coños quickly scored, to finish the game in 4 minutes, 15 seconds, but Heythrop had avoided a whitewash, and should feel very proud of themselves.

    5-1
    Jo 45 sec
    Ali 1 min 15sec
    Sarah 2 min
    Jo 3 min 15sec
    Tom 3 min 45sec
    Ali 4 min 15sec

Overall, Los Coños were solid and clinical, and with 30 goals in 2 fixtures, and only 1 goal against them, they've had a very good start to the league.

Heythrop were still pretty new to polo, but they had their moments, and i'm sure as the months go on, and they play more, they will improve. Certainly one of the players, Luke, looked like quiet a talent once he was able to borrow Sarah's bike for throw ins.

Wicksie, can I get the scorers and timings off you at some point?

  • Switching players mid fixture, who voted that one in ?

  • Nice to meet some new polo people..will there be a west revival?

  • Switching players mid fixture, who voted that one in ?

Well, I'm aware it's against convention, but it's not in the rules per se. In this case it seemed fair, as they had brought so many players, and Los Coños didn't object.

  • We are completely up for a west revival..
any ideas for where to play? Someone mentioned hammersmith? Ravenscourt park?

  • thanks for the support, having played polo for only a month, and having no one with any experiance of polo at all it was inevitable that we would be thrashed by los conos. im the only person who owned a fixed gear when we began and no one else had ever riden one. i accept that this doesnt really fit with certain cultural cliches that are associated with bike polo but i can guarantee that everyone from heythrop had a great time. we were pleasently overwhelmed by the friendly and open attitudes of the experianced riders and seeing how its really done just inspired us to play more. i think joe walsh deserves credit for starting the uni polo team and entering us into the league a month later. as it turns out this wasnt a disaster.
rik, youll be glad to know ill be building anther bike bike soon. just when i thought i had enough.
    luke

  • it's a well known fact that you can NEVER have enough bikes... As luke says, we had a great time and we are well up for the next game! I think credit is one word...an alarming degree of optimism is another! ha!

Cheers to los contos for a great game, we had a brilliant time even if you did slightly smash us! The atmosphere was brilliant and we'll definitely be down for throw ins.

Excellent, will be turning up mob handed to our fixture then ...........

    ;)

  • Ah, nice times indeed.
Don't be too fixed on having fixed gear bikes guys, you'll notice that it's only a small percentage of us who are. Your bikes are fine, apart from the guy who's brake lever was on his mallet hand side, just turn up and play polo! As Sarah said, come Sunday if you can as there's another league game and throwins before / after.
    Nice to meet you all.

What if a top team rocks up with 6 players, and subs people in mid fixture?

    It's not the bench minors.

    are you guys west????
it was at hurlingham park, with another court just down the road
it would be brilliant to have Welo back

  • What if a top team rocks up with 6 players, and subs people in mid fixture?

    It's not the bench minors.

Exactly. The precedent has now been set for any team to rock up with a number of legitimate subs and use them during their fixture.

There's a reason we go through the laborious voting process, so we ensure all teams play to the same rules.

    Poor decision in my opinion.

  • blah blah blah

U are the west revival felix!
