why on earth are so many Trek Madones selling on gumtree for such low prices? They all seem to have relatively good descriptions and stuff..
Because people need to shift them fast before the Feds come round asking about their provenance.
But there are ones like this.
Up for auction is this beautiful 2009 Trek Madone 5.2, in distinctive gloss white finish, with silver and red trim. This gorgeous bike was purchased for my wife, who has ridden it less than 300 miles and concluded she just isn't comfortable competing with cars on the road. It's a shame, because this beautiful Madone delivers a level of performance and a combination of comfort, handling and climbing ease that are uncommon in a compact racing geometry. The frame is virtually flawless, and is a wonderful example of the last year of American-made OCLV carbon frames.
In addition, the frame graphics, paint and decals are as flawless and sharp as the day this bike left the showroom floor.....Hardly sounds like the usual gumtree-spiv.

A shame that he listed it on Marktplaats and repainted it...It's still a beauty, to bad that Sape guy is spoiling it for everyone in NL.. Were the 753 framesets custom or on sale next to the 531C?

I'm not saying that he's spoiling it for everyone.
But I also don't like it.
Don't we all try to make some money on buying stuff cheap and selling it for a bit more?
He's just playing with a bit more money.Track 753 was produced and sold in the same way as the 531. All custom built.
Just lighter tubing, silver solder instead of brass, higher price, no chrome option.
Same as they (we) did with 753 and 531 Cyclocross. -

Ahh, thnx Dutchie!
And your right, but this guy immediately offers stupid prices and buys anything which is track (and now also road/Campa) related and sells it 2 days later for really strange prices. I just don't get it!

sape tried to sell (or sold) wheels with suicide hubs as track wheels for your fixie , when i asked him about it he told me not to mail him anymore if i wasnot interested in the wheels.
Very nice if someone dies because you sell them wheels without a proper lockring -
• #29038
Yup, the guy clearly doesn't know what he is doing..

On the subject of suicide hubs, I have seen quite a few pairs at a few jumble sales in and around London. Really suprised to see that fellow jumble traders never said anything about it. Yes, it is alright if you run them on track (which you do not skid and hence the lockring is not needed) but when run on the road... :(

He's just playing with a bit more money.I don't care how much he wants to pay for bikes & parts, it's his money and all that, just his style of doing business/communication sucks imho.

Track days are over for me hence it was a post for the benefit of forumers more than anything else.
Something for the nostalgic :)

Hopefully I was quick enough (half an hour though - I suspect not)...cheers c-a :).

Sorry for busting your cover... There were previously deals (loose agreement???) between forum members to abstain from bidding when a forumer expresses interest and they have been honoured before. But I guess this is the wild-wild-west of LFGSS hence anything goes. Removed the link if it helps :(
Grrrrr. I was watching that.

i have no problem with suicide hubs, i have a problem with people selling suicide hubs as fixie skidder wheels to people who know jackshit
A thing of beauty, Jack Taylor make Bob Jackson/Mercian etc. look like Halford jobbies.
