the ultrasharp is better on spec. twice as fast response time, more colours, not glossy.

3 quite good points I'd say. I compared prices and wasn't really sure why you wanted it over a 27" iMac, but it makes a lot more sense now, especially the non glossy thing

its a smidge cheaper than the 27" cinema display, which i considered too (and is the same spec as the imac?)

matt, did you get your PC sorted?
I have a spare server at home... not a powerful CPU, and limited to 4GB RAM... but tons of disk space, low-power usage, silent, and easily upgradeable.
I'll do you a very good deal on it if you want, and can also supply Windows 7 Ultimate (legit) and CS5 (possibly not legit... I'm asking no questions) on it.
This would leave you with most of your budget for the monitor and an opportunity to consider upgrades if you feel them necessary (perhaps a good graphics card?).
Let me know if you're interested and I'll work out the spec tonight.

i think the cinema displays are better than the imac screens. That used to be the case at least, not sure anymore tbh
now that apple is def more about consumers than pro's, one needs to check the specs. Before i trusted apple to choose for me, i'm not sure that's a good idea anymore

I don't know too much about displays, but comparing specs on the imac and cinema display they seem very similar? the cinema is just a bit brighter?
Is that screen much better than the iMac screen?
