My cat just fell out the window...

  • Hmmm.. Me.. I'd just love her as much as I could until I felt it was time to let her go.. I like to think I'd know when the game was up..

  • I haven't had to deal with a situation like yours, Horatio, but, like you said, she's not living the fullest of lives. And won't be getting better. Sleep might be the better option.

I feel cold typing this, but that's what I would do.

  • If I was in your situation I would wait for the cat to go off her food entirely (there will be a time when the instinct to roam/eat will be replaced with a general lethargy and a desire to be left alone), I would then have the cat put to sleep.

You know the cat better than anyone though, so you're in a good place to make whatever decision you choose.

  • Poor kitty, sorry to hear that.

  • Do you know what the tumour was?

Sorry H, I didn't really ask any questions at the time because, well, I wasn't really able to think straight and it would have made no difference. Her symptoms and progression sounds very much like your cat though.
I waited until she was not eating or doing anything, as per Jono's post, and then took her in knowing what was coming. It was only in the last couple of days before then that her quality of life deteriorated so much.
I am so sorry you are in this situation now mate.

  • Really sorry to hear that Horatio, have a look at my post on the previous page - https://www.lfgss.com/post1763991-185.html - we did whatever we could while she was still enjoying being a cat.

  • I'm thinking of re-homing my cat, I just don't have the time for her and can't seem to break her of her newest mat-pissing habit.
I'm going to try putting a new litter box in the house, but is anyone willing to be a good home for a cat?
I'm kind of just fishing at the moment, tbh.

  • sorry to hear about the run of feline bad luck on here. Condolences to Mark, well wishes to Moly/ Brave and good luck to Nhat.

  • Bit of a sad run agree Chris. I for one feel and felt a great deal of comfort for the simple share.

How's kitty day care working out?

  • Mark, really sorry to hear about your cat, that sucks.

  • i can hear the cat in the flat above mine meowing and crying. it does this quite a lot and sounds pretty distressed. they guy is out, what to do? what to do? call rspca for neglect???

  • If it's a new pet then it's quite normal for it to make lots of noise while it settles in (especially if it's recently been seperated from mother/siblings).

Why not ask your neighbour (or leave a note), then take action if needed?

  • My cat makes a racket every morning when he wants.to be let in, nothing wrong he just wants to get to his bowl pronto.

  • i reckon they guy is locking the cat in the kitchen when he goes out, and it goes mad and starts crying. i once had to go and knock on his door to tell him his cat was locked out on his window sill (2nd storey flat) crying its arse off and he couldnt hear it because he had some shitty r & b blaring out. the cunt

  • Floppy.

  • Anyone have any good recommendations for cat insurance? or companies not to go with.

Pennie has been beaten up and is limping and looking sorry for herself, trip to the vet may be in order tomorrow :(

  • anyone looking for pet insurance should check out Animal Friends Insurance (AFI) not for profit for charity.

  • I use Insureandgo.com, I looked into the options in detail a few years ago when I got my cats, and they offered the best deal at the time. Read the small print about whether they continue to insure year on year per event as some companies will stop covering one 'claim' after £x or one year - which is no good for long term illnesses. Also - bear in mind that you are unlikely to get cover for an existing issue, and also not for dental work (unless caused by an accident).

I looked at "retrospect" insurance for Molly.. Pretty much all policies won't cover anything for the first couple of months in order to evade having to pay out.. It's gonna have to come out of your pocket I'm afraid Teapots

  • Really hope Pennie is not too badly beaten up ... fingers crossed x

  • ^ Me too

  • I finally saw the comments up thread about cat food and had a closer look at the labels on what we've been feeding the cat. No more than 15% protein in wet Felix or dry One both made by Purina!

No wonder she was wolfing it down and demanding feeding first thing in the morning, all filler. And if it was more than a few hours old she'd ignore it so that was a load wasted all the time.

Bought some Iams on Sunday which seemed best of the bunch in the supermarket (35%) and she seems alot happier and is eating it all so no waste and isn't trying to wake us up for a feed anymore. Will grab some Hills this weekend.

Sorry for feeding you crap Poppy :(

  • get hills online. a 10kg bag is way cheaper then at stores. and it usually has free shipping.

  • Pennie is ok the vets given her pain killers and antibiotics, she has some wounds and is bruised.

    Thanks for all the advice.
I think if she is going to keep getting beat up by next doors cat insurance will help in the future. Animal friend looks like good value thank you and it is yearly maximums but i guess thats why its under £10 a month unlike most others.

Any tips on teaching a cat to stay out of fights....?

  • I feed mine Hi Life pouches (http://www.hilifepet.co.uk/) - there are usually some boxes at the supermarket, or bought in bulk. 60+% fish/chicken. Plus it kind of looks like bits of meat rather than reconstituted stuff.

They get Applaws a few times a week - I have never seen food disappear so quickly.

Reading the small print is very handy - I noted that Applaws is a 'Complementary' catfood rather than a 'Complete' catfood, and as such is not supposed to be their main diet - which is kind of good as it is rather expensive.
