i'm looking to fit drop bars to an old raleigh thats coming my way this week, however I want to achieve the more "modern" brake lever fitment, and have the brake lever hoods in line with the top of the bar with a nice flat transition from bar to hood, my question is;
to do this will i need to avoid older style brake levers or older handlebars? cheers -

Oh, lynx. If only you had quoted(read?) my original post (including my edit of your post) then you may have got the, admittedly feeble, joke

Virgil, avoid older style brake levers. I have `aero' (cable come out the back and is wrapped under bar tape.) brake levers on old bar and it's the lever that make the difference.

I thought the Rapha van had to be towed everywhere - no engine?
I think it has to be towed every because it keeps breaking down, I'm pretty sure it has an engine. John Eggpie knows for sure, but I think he said it breaks down all the time.

You can DIY in a pinch, it's not brain science

I've had a go and got other people to do it, got different measurements. If I get it wrong it's an expensive mistake. So I'd prefer someone who knows what they're doing...

What was the range of the readings?

Can't remember now, I did think I might read up then get a few people in the office to do it and average out the results. But just read this bit from your link:
Put your glasses on so that they are comfortable and steady. Ask your friend to stand opposite you and mark on your lenses the position of your pupils with a non permanent marker.
So might just do that.

If you ever need any evidence of the stupidity of Americans, it's the Americanisation of the spelling of LASER. WTF is the Z supposed to stand for?

Lazertits.com. The URL is a win on it's own.
Phonetically lazer makes more sense.

But LASER is an acronym, with a Z it makes no sense at all

You don't care about the bastardisation of the language. You only need an excuse to paste in more laser tits!
Find something cheap in that bracket.
Why not look into classes of vehicles that don't need MOT
