@smallfurry - you can't tar everyone with the same brush just because you encountered one wanker cyclist
Sorry, was'nt my intention.
To be clear, I simply dislike the idea that our actions only put ourselves at risk.
Share the road man, etc.

I jumped lights, I continue to jump lights, I do not think of myself as an exhibitionist or a daredevil, or a bad/impolite cyclist.
I'm just one cyclist who rides in my way, I don't expect others to ride like me, or for others to hold me up as an example to others.
Just ride your bike, and if someone rides in a manner that you find dangerous or excessive, or that endangers you, have a word, then and there, not an angry word, just a word, let them know there are alternatives and leave it at that.
each one teach one and all that...
Earlier, you had a pop at redrum for saying he jumps reds. What is it that you're saying now? That you'll will teach us to jump reds safely? You say you don't expect others to ride like yourself but you will have a word with them if you think they're riding dangerously. What are you on about?

to mandem with no mudguards, get some mudguards or get the bus.
some prick on a disgusting trek passed me in the pissing rain with no mudguards then cruised along in front of me. i was going to say something to him at the traffic lights, but in this city it would have been a drop in the ocean since no one seems to give a shit about other riders.
oh and get some proper ones, not the ones that just stop you getting wet.

It just means more than you would usually. I hate it too, but when you are in a hurry its certainly shorter than typing a sentence.
What's wrong with 100%? It already expresses the maximum degree to which a thing can be done, and it is already hyperbolic, since it is not humanly possible to give 100% of one's attention to any single task, even for a few seconds at a time.

@ overdrive, I was reacting to redrum's attitude to being pulled up on rlj, by his posting of an image of the universal gesture for masturbator.
If someone undertakes me I have a word, if someone tries to undertake a bus or a lorry, when they don't need to I'll have a word. If someone pulls out in front of me, without looking, and almost takes me down I'll have a word.
Jumping red lights is something I've always done, I don't go out of my way to justify it, or shout it from the rooftops, its not worth it. I'll continue to jump lights because thats the way I ride, but I'll also stop at lights when they are red, because sometimes I can't be arsed, and sometimes I remember I am traffic as well.
Right now its 70/30 jumping to stopping.

Shit! That story is really mad.
One car door and a little bit more ... There's a 'rule' that's worth bearing in mind.

In terms of what to say to cyclists, I tend to either lie ("someone I know was badly hurt doing what you're doing") or smile and suggest that they're, for example, more visible in the middle of the lane at a junction- focus on how they could do things better rather than what they're doing wrong. Suggesting cycle training can go down quite badly, but I tend to emphasize the fact that it's free, seems to take the edge off.
Oh, and I told off a PCSO for stopping with his foot on the kerb at some lights the other day- asked incredulously- "don't you guys get cycle training?" he told me his positioning was "quicker" (???) and I sweetly suggested he should be setting an example with his riding. To which his colleague yelled "you've been TOLD, bruv!"
Weird. -

I'll continue to jump lights because thats the way I ride, .
You're not seriously advancing this as an argument are you? I will do what I do because what I do is what I do and therefore that is what I will do because what I do is what I do and so that is what I will do.
Personally I don't do the things I don't do because they are things I don't do and if I did them they would be things I do and not things I don't do and I don't do things I don't do.
Ever read CycleCraft by Donald Rumsfeld? -

No one's mind has ever been changed by an argument/discussion on the internet,
I disagree.

I walk out of my office building to cross the road to get some food with the tiresome stereotypical slagging off of cyclists going round in my head and there are cyclists weaving there way past the red lights and I'm like the rest of them up there. So what do I do ? - block their way (wave my metaphorical walking stick into their front wheel) ? - attempt to explain that don't they know that there are rageing debates about red light jumping and the negative image of cyclists they are giving out ?
I do nothing and my excuse is they probably wouldn't have a clue what I was on about. -

actions speak louder than words
the internetz speak rivers of bullshit
ed in answer to your question about when people ask you why people jump lights, just answer becasue they can.
I learnt to ride in london and you jumped lights, you just did, now there are more people riding bikes, rlj is this heinous act that only misfits and miscreants do.
I jumped lights, I continue to jump lights, I do not think of myself as an exhibitionist or a daredevil, or a bad/impolite cyclist.
