andypancake I don't have the same experience as you and I rode brakeless for about six weeks as a temporary thing, but I get you. I don't think it's such a massive leap of faith to understand someone else's perspective, which is basically what you're saying.

I don't mind people running reds at their own risk, what pisses me off is people riding across the green man for peds like they aren't there, if they're on the other side of the road or you've got lots of space fine, but there are too many twats out there nearly running people over. Not cool.

What if a train driver jumped a red light? is that the same?
They can't. The TPWS will automatically stop the train.

I wonder if there's a ped forum where peds spaz out when they see other peds crossing a road when there's no little green man..

It's called Germany

@ rocksteady huh? that is a fucking retarted question! How many people have been killed by bad cyclists? how many people have been killed by bad drivers? Are you seriously trying to compare the 2? What if a train driver jumped a red light? is that the same?
not a retarded question at all, i was just amazed at how quickly you excused yourself for jumping red lights simply because you haven't run anyone over. so it's ok for you but not anyone else.has anyone recommended cycle training?

Thanks for that redrum

I jump reds all the time....but in no way does that make me a bad cyclist.
Quick question if I may.
Why does you feel it's necessary to?

It is necessary to keep flow if you are riding fixed (brakeless) I'm sure he does not mean every set of lights he comes across.
Just the ones that allow him to get through with out causing any upset to those in the vicinity. I assume so, because its the way I ride.
I'm pretty sure you have a picture of a rider just charging straight through everything without any care or thought in the world!
If you are a good rider you are thinking more than anyone else on the road at all times.

Why is it necessary to keep flow if you're riding a fixed wheel bicycles? I'd though that you would adjust your speed accordingly when approaching a traffic light so you can come to a full stop (or trackstand) if it changed?
Honestly, I don't think 'keeping the flow' is a very valid reason.

It all depends how fast you go and in how much of a hurry you are ed :)
I'd not be in a hurry if I rode a touring bike like you.

Oh the best thing about having a heavy bike that force you to take it easy is that by the time you reach the traffic light, it's turning green.
Actually come to think of it, my 'touring bike' help me keep my flow without breaking the law.

There you have it... 2 groups of people.
Law breakers and law followers...
Make sure you fit in now :) follow the rules and be a nice sheep.
Go to work, pay the bills, go out on Friday night, get fat, think that locking your bike up with 4 locks won't get it stolen in Hackney... etc
(sorry getting carried away)Most of all.
Keep calm and carry on. (not that this really applies in today's society)
The world is in melt down and you cant stop it, so why not fuck with it?!

Jumping some red lights is not very much fucking with the world I know, but It makes the journey a lot more fun.
I'd rather go out with a bang anyway.

i dont understand this thread??? is it about jumping reds? or is it about bad cyclists in general?
i guess the thread could well have been comprised of yes/no answers to the original quesion: "is it time to start calling out bad cyclists?"
yes.
lawbreaking, reckless and inept road users operating any vehicle or on foot should be politely and constructivly reprimanded by responsible road users. -

Getting hit by a motorised vehicles with RLJing does create that impression either way.

I do try sometimes, just to shit up the drivers of vehicles who are on the wrong side of the road/not indicating/on the phone/on the phone/on the phone/trying to cut me up.
You can almost always catch the culprits at the next set of lights.
They get scared when you stand your ground and make a physical point of showing them you don't care.On a track bike you have to pay attention 110% of the time otherwise you will come a cropper. Right?

Really...? REALLY?
You want to leave this earth in a smash of twisted metal and your own broken body?
Very strange.
Besides, it would probably sound more like a splat. -

Couldn't I just pay attention 110% on a normal bike?

You can, but a normal bike does not force you to pay attention.
Have you tried being on the phone whilst trying to slow down on a track bike? (I'm not talking about hands free either... that's just dumb)
Jumping red lights kills grannies. Grannies!
